What perfume should someone with sensitive skin choose?

I have extremely sensitive skin, along with allergies to some perfumes. I'm in a business where I move a lot, and am currently looking for a perfume whose scent lasts more than a couple minutes. I'd love to find one with the scent of desserts, or at the very least, something really, really fruity. I'm also poor, so I kind of need something inexpensive.

Any recommendations, websites, etc, that can help me with this dilemma?

Is Differin - Adapalene ever used to treat allergic reactions on the skin?

Please tell me that my allergist is not a big idiot. I just had skin (prick) testing done for allergies. To soothe the allergic welts that came up, my allergist puts Defferin on them and gave me samples of it to take home.

I looked on the internet and Differin - Adapalene is an acne medicine that is used to keep pores clear.

Do you use it for skin irritation from allergies too? I would think you would use cortisone ointment for that?

Please enlighten me. Thanks in advance.

Is Differin - Adapalene ever used to treat allergic reactions on the skin?
I would think that would irritate your skin . . I have allergies and couldn't use Diff. to treat acne because its hard on allergic skin. I agree - I would call the doc and ask.

Also - cortisone can be used to help with allergic reactions but don't use it for too long - steroids thin the skin and can cause damage. It's okay to use every now and then, just try not to make a habit of it. Good luck!
Reply:sounds like maybe they made a mistake? I would call and clarify.
Reply:Just go get some Benadryl cream and you will feel better. Or just wait and it will subside.

I doubt that an allergist would have acne stuff on hand for no reason! :)

Is it a skin or blood allergy or what?

my friend has this condition were at night his skin becomes inflammed(similar to the way yur skin will make when u've just had a burn) but it scratches him and it comes out in large and small patches all over his body. in the morning n during the day it not there. his blood type is o+ and he is allergic to medicenes like aspirin so i think these things are all related.

Is it a skin or blood allergy or what?
wow he needs to get to a doctor..... but if it only happens at night in the bed then it could be what you wash your sheets in...... the type of laundry detergent..
Reply:he needs to go to the emergency room to check that out
Reply:if it has anything got to do with blood he needs to be careful a few months ago i had my tonsils taken out,i was recovoring well until i woke up 1 nite i had 2 get sick iended up throwing up blood but tought nothing of it until i went really pale i was sent to hospital and released and i started 2 bleed again and woke up 2 days later with blood and fluids pumped into me i never thought anything of it until i was told i nearly died...get him checked out even if its only minor at least you'll be worry free and can get it treated,if its got to do with blood he could get poisoned and would be very serious then hoped i helped u....
Reply:eczema this has nothing to do with having your tonsils out and then hemorrhaging afterwards

Can an allergy turn a childs skin a purply blue color?

can an allergy turn a childs skin purply blue and make there hands and feet swell

if so what kind of allergy

or what else could it be

Can an allergy turn a childs skin a purply blue color?
It would depend on if they are allergic to something they ate, or washed in etc. It could be a insect bite also. But if they are swelling and turning blue, you need to get them to the ER to be seen b/c it sounds like they are having a severe allegic reaction to something. The next to go is their respiratory then they will be considered to be in anaphylaxis which can be deadly.
Reply:someone could be hitting your kid
Reply:Yes.We have to find out from history and physical examination.
Reply:If your little ones hands and feet are swollen, and his/her skin tone is changing to those colors, you need to get him/her into a clinic right away.

It could be any number of things, but because of the skin tone and swelling, it needs to be looked at now. Not tomorrow or in a week. This is urgent.
Reply:call 911 you idiot and get it to the hospital.
Reply:When ever the child eat check to the ingredients of the food and document his/her reaction. It could be anything that he/she is eating or wearing even smelling. My friend get pink eye if she burn her fire place. You never know.
Reply:It could be eczema.I used to have that bad but it was more of a red color not purple, could just be his is more severe. My brother had what looked like a bruise on his leg one time and they said it was eczema and it cleared after a few weeks of some ointment. If the skin irritations happen close to joints like on the elbows and such then it could be an early sign of Psoriasis to.

Its always best to go for a second opnion but what they told you isn't rediculous. Not all bodies are the same and i would imagine the discoloration of skin from eczema in some will likely be darker than the color of others.Does he have other allergy symptoms? Lots of sinus problems? itching or flaking scalp that seems chronic and not just like normal dandruff? Brocitus (Asthma)? red itchy eyes at time? If he has alot of these other things then the skin thing very well could just be another of many allergy symptoms.Eczema usually flakes though. It starts as skin discoloration then seems to work its way to the surface and causes scaling and flaking around the area before it heals (often coming back in the exact same area where it was before). If you don't see flaking it could be something else.

My nephew was born with severe eczema and his elbows and knees and parts of his feet always are dark red and sometimes almost bruise colored on bad days.If that sounds liek your boy he could be the same. The biggest worry isn't what you see its what you don't see.Like it could be a sign he has chronic allergies and some foods can cause bad reactions or even death if real severe. So best to find out fast if its allergies and do testing to seat what foods he's most allergic to.My nephew almost died eating kethcup,he can't have any tomato product (or beef) we found out the hard way with an emergency room visit.
Reply:Yes, if the child is not getting enough oxygen. Allergies can cause asthma, swelling, vomitting, diarrhea, rashes, etc.....

Could be an allergy to anything. You need to find a pediatric allergist and have your child tested immediately.

I have have dogs w/food allergies. The food from the vet is expensive. Does any one know of a cheaper food?

8mo. labs. although uncommon this early in there life, they suffer from skin and food allergies. I got them from amish puppy mill and have been committed to giving them a good home. I currently have them on Hills prescription diet from there vet. I was wondering if any body else dealt with this and found a cheaper brand or idea. They are also fatty acid supplement. They are really great dogs.

I have have dogs w/food allergies. The food from the vet is expensive. Does any one know of a cheaper food?
my lucy is the same way shes allergic to corn and wheat. so i feed her nutro its all healthy no bi-products in it...and most grocery brands are packed with bi-products. At petco i buy a 25lb bag for about 23$ its pricey but far less expensive than the vets! also cooked chicken without the skin and fat is a good treat! good luck....
Reply:you haven't said what exactly they are allergic to. But I gave my dog brown rice and cooked turkey meat (the stuff that comes in a 'roll' like a big fat sausage?), then you can add the supplements they need to take. Much cheaper than 'specialist' dog food.
Reply:Go to a Pet Store such as Petsmart or Petco-take with you a can of the Hills prescription diet and then once in the store go to a employee or Manager and explain why you have a can of dog food-perhaps they can help you check the CONTENTS of your food against the Contents of the foods they have if not you'll have to---Hill is I believe Science Diet-check also Authority-but the Contents must be exactly.Since dogs are Carnivorous ask your vet if you can prepare food like chicken-a package of cutup chicken approx $4.or Beef Meat from Butcher. Boiled Brown rice or White rice can you in between feed Homemade, give a Multi Vitamin and the fatty acid supplement(Vit E,Fish oil, flax oil?) You can probably take the Fatty Acid supplement go to a Health Food store and get the exact same ingredients in a Fatty acid supplement chl the amount too but cheaper--perhaps you can feed homemade 1 day and the vet Food the next day if you can't find cheaper food and since prescription doubt it----but bet you can get list from VET that you can buy from store esp Meat-a dogs main requirement, and intersperse with canned. Hope this helps
Reply:you may want to try puppy chow/food

i'm no vet and i didn't have a dog - but was told the same thing about my cat who had the same symptoms.

i decided i couldn't afford to pay more for my cat's diet than my own so i called all the animal food companies looking for a less costly alternative. Eukanuba was one but it made my cat vomit. Finally i found someone at the Purina company who told me there was no such thing as an 'allergy free' animal food - what allergy free means is that the food is 'highly digestible' he told me to give the highly digestable kitten chow a try.

i did. that along with nixing his plastic bowl for glass worked. in fact it kept him 'allergy' free and alive for 18 years.

another alternative was to feed them a combination of cooked rice, cooked hamberger, cooked chicken. and cottage cheese.

I have a yellow lab with food allergies too. You have to do some research on dog foods. You want to find a dog food that has chicken and rice or lamb and rice. I found one called Exclusive that really works for my lab. It's chicken and rice, and it's low fat too. My lab has been one this food for about a year and has only had one out break ine that time and it was a little one. Do your home work and you'll find one that works for you dog.
Reply:Try looking up BIL-JAC CANINE FOOD.

YOU can buy it by the case-if you have freezer space.

My dogs did wonderful w/it.
Reply:Do you know exactly what ingredient they are allergic to? There are lots of different brands out there, and they have lamb and rice, chicken, and more like that. You might also try making their food at home, that way you know exactly what goes into it.
Reply:I can only suggest that you find any dry dog food which is free of preservatives, food colours and artificial flavours. I am in Australia and there is one here which is so cheap, it's brilliant, so it doesn't have to be an expensive vet brand.

Never buy dog food from a vet. They are experts at convincing well-meaning dog owners to buy the most expensive food possible.

Once you've got this everything-free dog biscuit, add some olive oil and raw egg every few days. If it's cold add some hot water to make it into a mash. Add some animal fat or cheap meat minced up. Try adding some Vegemite too if they won't react badly to it - it's full of vitamins.

Make sure they have a raw marrowbone split longwise down the centre every week. The rich marrow in the middle contains essential nutrients.

The most common cause for skin problems in dogs, esp. labs and rotties, is the preservatives in dog food. Good luck!
Reply:Dogs with allergy issues always cost a considerable amount of money. Mostly it is trial and error. If you can afford it I would try a bones and raw food diet a.k.a (b.a.r.f diet). Also depending what is coming out the other end you may want to try prozyme. Its a food supplement that aids in digestion. Most of the alternative stuff I learned from a holistic vet. He used both concepts of eastern and western vet medicine, like accupunture and herbs along with steroids until we could ween our dog off of them. Best of luck.
Reply:I have an 8 year old German shepherd with food allergies. He does well on Natural Balance Venison %26amp; Rice. I didn't have any luck with any of the prescription diets from the vet (Hills D/D or Z/D, IVD Venison or Duck). I also supplement with Heska F.A. powder which has flax seed in it. Omega 3 fatty acids are good, too. Allergy dogs usually need more than your average dog.

Good for you for committing to these very deserving puppies! And good luck with their allergies. It's a trial and error thing sometimes to find just the right food for these guys with skin issues.
Reply:Please get your dogs OFF of Science Diet. As another poster mentioned, Vet Prescription diets are really LOW quality and they are way too overpriced. Vets in North America really receive little to no training in nutrition (which is the same for human doctors) and the training that they receive is funded by Science Diet...see a bias there?!

You didn't mention which of the SD prescription diets you are feeding, so here is one of their low-allergen formulas:

Z/D Low-Allergen:

-DRIED POTATO PRODUCT (dried potato skins, fiber yes, no other nutritional value, the first ingredient should always be protein)

-HYDROLYZED CHICKEN LIVER (chemical altered chicken, yuck, liver contains toxins and should not be in the food)

-POTATO STARCH (this is the same as the sticky stuff that is leftover from boiling potatoes...low grade filler)

-SOYBEAN OIL (many dogs are allergic to soy AND this is a low quality oil)

-Preserved with BHA (this is a PROVEN cancer causing chemical preservative. Most companies have banned its use)

-HYRDOLYZED CHICKEN (yum, more chemically altered chicken)

-POWDERED CELLULOSE (more starchy fillers)

-SALT (should never be in pet foods, increases risk of heart disease)

So, your vet wants you to think that you are feeding this miracle food that is great for your dog. What they don't tell you is that most of the ingredients in the food are leading to your dogs death (harsh but true).

When you look for a food, you have to ask yourself "would I eat this". Of course, you wouldn't, but do you understand what the ingredients are and do they appeal to you?

Here is a food by the Natura Pet Products Company. They are leaders, producing some of the healthiest, safest pet foods in the world. They do not sell to vets or to mass store chains because they want to ensure their products are sold by knowledgeable staff who understand pet nutrition (some holistic vets do sell these foods).

Now you didn't state what your dogs were allergic to but by far the BEST food on the market for dogs with allergies is California Natural. There formulas are made with such high quality, basic ingredients, you don't have to worry about all of the other stuff. Here are their two main formulas, depending on what your dog is allergic to:

CN Lamb and Rice:

-Lamb Meal

-Ground Brown Rice

-Ground White Rice

-Sunflower Oil

-Taurine

CN Chicken and Rice:

-Chicken Meal

-Ground Brown Rice

-Ground White Rice

-Sunflower Oil

-Taurine

Flaxseed

Unlike EVERY other Lamb and Rice or Chicken and Rice food on the market, these two are the ONLY ones that contain no other 'substantial' ingredients like fillers. They are simply meat and rice...exactly what your dogs need.

So, visit www.naturapet.com and use their store locator to find out if it is sold near you (they also ship).

PLease...my advice to you is to do a bit of research on you own...this is a good starting point but there is a ton of information on pet foods out there. A good book to read is "Foods Pets Die For" by Ann M. Martin. Really opens your eyes to the pet food world.

Don't get sucked in by the misconception the vets are experts in nutrition...this leads to too many unnecessary illnesses and deaths.

What can I do for my boston terrier with allergies?

I have a 2 yr old boston terrier with pink itchy skin. He has been blood and skin tested for allergies. he is currently on cyclosporine and has been on prednisone, etc in the past. He has been checked for parasites, has been on a allergen free diet, but nothing works. Any ideas? Possibly not allergies?

What can I do for my boston terrier with allergies?
wow that sounds like my little dog....here's what worked for me....ask your vet if it's OK for you to try it too. I give my dog 1/2 teaspoon of fresh garlic in his food every day...in about 2 weeks he was 3/4 better....hope it works for you too.
Reply:that really funny really
Reply:Is this a new onset problem? I had a yellow lab, who was allergic to our grass, and would get a nasty rash on his abdomen. Our veterinarian finally put him on an antihistamine called hydroxyzine , after trying plain old over the counter benadryl. That worked. The ironic thing was that it was also my allergy medication. Topical hydrocortisone can also be used, but keeping them from licking it off it a pain, I used to put one of my hubby's T-shirts on him after I applied it. The other name for hydroxyzine is Vistaril. Good Luck
Reply:I have a Rat Terrier that we went through the exact same thing with. You don't want to keep giving the steroid shots because it can cause damage to their organs and take over their immune system. You said that you've done skin allergy tests. What you need to do now is have a blood test done for allergies. This blood test is about $300. and is done to a specific area (where you live) and tests for all types of foods in addition to local plants, weeds, etc... that are in your area. It gives a print-out of everything that the dog is allergic to and ranks them in order of how allergic it is to each thing. If there are only a few things that it's mainly allergic to, you may be able to remove them or keep your dog from those things. If they are things that you can't keep the dog from, then you can get these shots that actually contain the allergins themselves that overpower the dogs immune system and makes him not react anymore, but you have to continue giving these shots. That's what I'm doing now and it's working great. This is the only thing that's worked. (You could also try Benedryl for now to see if that helps a bit).
Reply:You mentioned only that he had been tested for allergies. Did he go through desensitization(requires injections)? The only other treatments are antigen avoidance, benadryl, and hydrocortisone(bad). Try Calomine, Aveeno, Aloe Vera lotions and castor oil(you read right).

Lotion for sensitive skin in swimming pool?

My niece has a very sensitive skin and I am afraid that she would get rashes, allergies from the swimming pool in this rainy season, can someone please suggest some lotion or cream that can be applied on the skin to prevent allergies or infections?

Lotion for sensitive skin in swimming pool?
If she has that sensitive skin, she should avoid chlorinated swimming pools in general. Chlorine is an terrible irritant.

My 3 year old black lab has some sort of allergy or skin disease..tried everything, now he is on ATOPICA?

So, we've tried countless medicines.. nothing seems to help him.

He itches himself all the time, and he has lost all of his hair on his neck, legs, tummy and ears...the vet doesn't seem to know how to treat it. He is currently on steriods, another medicine to prevent and kill bacteria on his skin, and now Atopica. Does anyone have any experince with Atopica and this kind of conditon with their dog??

My 3 year old black lab has some sort of allergy or skin disease..tried everything, now he is on ATOPICA?
It is a great med when it works and most the time it does work. My friend had a Saint Bernard with the problems you are talking about and Atopica is the only thing that worked. You might want to get a second opinion from another vet if this doesn't work.
Reply:First, I'm sorry to hear your baby is suffering, which can only mean, you are suffering too because as all true animal lovers know; we suffer when they suffer.

My now 7-yr. old Am.Staffordshire/Pit Bull mix baby boy Sampson, has been experiencing this problem for the last few summers, with this summer, by far, being the woarse.

I've spent several hundred dollars this year alone to get him help/cured; but, just like you and many others who are experiencing this same problem with their pets, it's an up hill battle.

Sam always got better once the warm weather left, this year, he just looks pitaful and I am doing everything I can to keep him happy. I will never give up on him, as I know we all will do right by our pets.

I wish you and anyone experiencing this problem with their pets, the very best.

Could frontline not work because my dog has a skin problem?

I ask because I use front line on dog and put it on correctly but poor thing still gets fleas fairly bad, my cat however isn't on anything and doesn't get them at all. Even after ill get fleas off of dog and he will be free for a week or so he still will scratch and be up all night. Could allergies or skin problem make fleas worse?

He's a 6 yr old poodle

Could frontline not work because my dog has a skin problem?
You can assume these are the dog flea species, which is why the cat doesn't have them - dog fleas won't bite cats, which is why they're not as common as cat fleas, which bite everything.

I've never thought about it, but I suppose in theory excessively dry skin WOULD stop Frontline spreading - it spreads through the sebaceous glands, so if they're not producing, this in theory would cause a problem.

It sounds like you're doing everything right, so this is tough. Glad you're working with a vet though - let them help you. I can only suggest switching to one of the other veterinary spot-ons like Advocate (just in case it isn't dry skin being the problem) and maybe switching your house treatment. Does sound like there's a skin problem here that needs to be got to the bottom of.

There's always Capstar, that'll work for you if you vet can supply it, as it's non topical. It's not a preventative, but will provide short-term relief while you get to the bottom of the problem.

Chalice
Reply:Frontline or Advantage works on all dogs. I have a dog with extremely dry skin and she scrates all the time.

The Vet said to give her a Benadryl 3-4 times a day and put a little bit of oil in her food (Veg oil, canola oil)

The only other solution would be to have the vet give you cortozine pills but they will eventually kill his/her liver so I do not use them.
Reply:I know Frontline is sold as being one of the most recommended products for fleas out there but I honestly haven't met anyone that its worked for. My gf uses it on her beagle and golden retriever and I tried it on my shih tzu. They all still had fleas.

So far, the one that's worked best for me is Revolution. Plus its heartworm medicine as well.

These meds work in pets just like a prescription works for you. It may work better for some than others. Try switching.
Reply:It could be allergies, we had an allergic golden a while back. You might have to change your dog's diet if thats the case. You should ask your vet about it. You should also consider switching back and forth between frontline and another one like advantage. This will probably help if your dog's skin is sensitive, and it would also help combat the flea problem.
Reply:No, the fleas and flea bites would make the skin issues worse. But the front line is applied to the coat and eventually the medicine travels down the back towards the base of the tail. I would take that front line package back for a new one, perhaps this batch was expired or not working? Then treat all areas of the house to kill the fleas and the eggs including the bedding, carpet, outdoors, etc. And how did you determine he has a recurrence of fleas? Have you actually seen them on the dog ? It sounds like skin problems like allergies so you will want to address that first.
Reply:From what I hear, Frontline is not near as effective as a lot of people think. Try switching.
Reply:i never had a problem with frontline. you're not bathing your dog within 3 days of putting it on right?
Reply:You might want to try Capstar. It is a pill and it is pricey but you don't have to give it everyday but it will kill the fleas on your dog until you can get to a vet who will help you find a product that will work. A good bath on are regular basis will help too. You don't need a flea shampoo just something good like Neem Protect Shampoo. Good luck!
Reply:I have 4 German Shepherd Dogs and use Frontline on all but one. The three males do well with Frontline, but for some reason it just does not seem to work on the female. For her I have to use Advantix. Maybe Frontline just does not work with your dog's body chemistry. Try something else.
Reply:\the weather aggravates dry skin during the winter. if you shampoo wait at least a week so dogs ph levels can stabilize and i find advatage a better monthly treatment stays in the blood system to disrupt flea cycle but if your not treating dag and cat symotaniously your not benefitting either since the treatments are absorbed into either animal individually

besides allergies or skin conditions like eczema and seborrhea can cause extreme long lasting skin itchiness? internal or mental conditions?

Extreme itchiness - what causes it besides skin disorders?
Dry Skin, nervousness, dust mites, (from cleaning dusty dirty what evers) flea's , If you just got your hair cut the fine hair on your skin will make you itch, to much soap in your laundry,
Reply:AIDS
Reply:itch powder
Reply:itchiness can be caused in winter months by dry skin which becomes dry because of the dry air your house heat produces. Normal air humidity in summer is 50%--in winter it can drop as low as 20%. This will dry your body skin and make it itch as it becomes dehydrated. Try getting a good humidifier for your home. Sears makes a good 5 gallon one with a fan, and it works great. My winter itchiness has all but stopped since I have been using it in the last 5 years. Good luck.

Every year I get dry skin on my face, why?

Every year as the weather gets warm- late spring, early summer, along with seasonal allergies the skin around my mouth, chin, nose becomes VERY dry and painful. Burns, itches, flakes. Put anything on it burns, still a vat of vaseline won't help. Doctors, even dermatologists don't know what it is. It is so distressing and uncomfortable I am in tears. Only relief is if the skin is wet but then it just gets dryer. It will go away then return a time or two, not as bad and then it doesn't happen again until next year. It has been 5 or so years so far. Any ideas? I'm desperate.

Every year I get dry skin on my face, why?
Sounds like an allergy and vaseline is the worst thing to choose it actually hardens skin not softens it contrary to what people think. It's oil - not healthy for you either.

Have you tried pure and natural products? Vitamin e both orally and on your skin? Water, do you drink a lot during this time??

Reply:Drink a ton of water. Check with your dermatologist to see if you have a condition too - it might be eczema or a strong reaction to the changing of the humidity in the air - also try a humidifier.
Reply:My son gets something like that around his mouth. He licks the rash and that just keeps it wet. He says it is irratating. And it looks bad too.

The remedy I am suggesting sounds weird (and looks terrible, since it is white colored and looks alot like toothpaste, but I tried a diaper rash cream on it (before he goes to sleep at night), and by morning the rash looks much better. It is usually healed up in a few nights. (I think the rash is a form of yeast, but the Dr's, haven't said that, they prescribe a cortisone, that doesn't work as well as the diaper rash cream). Zinc Oxide is the active ingredient in it. You may want to give that a try (when you aren't expecting company)! : )

Do I have to go to my GP or get an appointment with somewhere like Bupa? or is it possible to go to a specific allergy clinic? I live in East Anglia.

Allergy testing/ skin reaction?

I recently was tested for my outdoor allergies. I had the little pricks on my back %26amp; then shots of it in the arm to double check the ones that came up negative. That was 6 days ago %26amp; some of the red areas on my arm haven't gone away! Should I be concerned about this? I'm not having any bad reactions except it kind of looks like a small rash at the injection sites. I guess I just expected it to have gone away by now.... Help?

Allergy testing/ skin reaction?
No. This is normal and unless they look infected, there is no reason to worry. Sometimes the areas are just super sensitive after the testing. Try putting topical steroid cream like hydrocortisone 1% on the area.

Good luck!
Reply:that sounds like a long time. but some of us have sensitive skin and it's not even a reaction you are seeing, but just the actual little prick from the needle. those take a couple extra days. so, if it's just the one's where the needles were, it's probably not the allergen that your arm is still reacting to, but just the needle.

good luck!
Reply:I had the same thing when I was tested it should be alright.Just keep a eye on it,and notify your D.R. if it gets worse.
Reply:You should have a return appointment with your doctor to check the places on your arm, but you are in no danger if it just appears as a small rash. It will just tell the doctor that you are allergic to those things. If you should experience difficulty breathing then that would indicate a more severe reaction which would require immediate medical attention
Reply:Put some benadryl creme on it.
Reply:Calm down... somtimes stress can worsen or cause a rash. First off, put some aloe vera on it, and then call your doctor to see if this normally happens.
Reply:No you're fine. Ive had that so many tI'mes before. because I'm deadly allergic to peanuts, tree nuts, (these next things im not deadly allergic to just allergic) pollen, dust, dust mites, trees, grass, any animal that has fur and some kind of medicine that i cant remember the name of. Don't worry about it.
Reply:If you are allergic to the places they shot in your arm, I don't think it is uncommon to last that long. I am allergic to nickel and if i touch it for even a minute, my break out will last about a week or 2.

Good luck.

Best antihistamine for skin rash allergy?? its on my face!!!?

i dont know what it could be that im allergic to, thoguht it was hair dye as it only appeared since i been workin in a hair dressers. but it didnt appear on my hands only my face and neck. its kindof red marks, some with whiteheads and they are itchy. the doctor thought i was only allergic to it when i have it on me, like when im gettin my hair dyed. but.... i havn had my hair dyed since and it has appeared again!!!! how do i get rid of it!! posted another question explainin all details. i want it gone for good!! how do i get rid of it?? i am starting taking anti histamines again as this is third time its appeared since end of august!! and using hyrocortasone creme too. but i used those last time and it has appeared again. so they obviously didnt work last time. please help. i really need your advice!!! x x x x x

Best antihistamine for skin rash allergy?? its on my face!!!?
Try over the counter Benedryl, and some anti-fungal cream like lotrimin. If it doesn`t get any better, you may need to see a dermatologist for something stronger. Good Luck!!!!!
Reply:benedryl
Reply:Have you tried a topical antihistamine ( apply to the skin)?? Benadryl is an antihistamine that is available in spray form and in a cream form. Maybe you should wear a face mask when you are working around chemicals where you work, especially when mixing chemicals for hair color ( dye). Place a small fan near your work station, keep it on low and in the direction away from you so that you'll get some ventilation from the chemicals. I hope that this helped some and Good Luck.
Reply:I think you need to get an allergy test. The test that would examine your blood and the results would tell on which things and food you are allergic. I don't think taking too much anti-histamines would help you get rid of those allergies. Sometimes, taking too much medicine might cause negative effects on your health. I suggest you to take that test, just to be sure, if those things really come from allergies and for you to know the main cause of the skin reaction or better visit some other physicians of different fields.. :) I hope this can help. God bless!

Injections under the skin fror allergy testing?

How is this done? Is it sterile needles. Do they come or should they come out sterile packaging? My allergist wants to do them but I have seem the needles all lined up on a tray already. This doesn't seem to sterile to me.

Injections under the skin fror allergy testing?
I believe that that was the way that it was done with me, but that was back in 1966. It would take too long to take each needle out and fill it up while you are waiting, so I am presuming that the nurse/receptionist does it in between each patient.
Reply:Yes they use a needle ready done wit the 'suspect' allergy.

It depends on what you are allergic to, to know if this is the best way of finding out.

I can advise using a kinesiologist as the method used is non invasive and in the hands of a properly trained practitioner is really good.

You can also try a vega machine but this depends very much on the therapists skill.

If it is food allergies the best way is not to eat it for four weeks and then try it. you will soon know if it is an allergy or not. if it is an intolerance then this won't tell you for maybe a day or two. As allergies are different to intolerance's
Reply:If you don't want to go the skin scratch route, then you can have a RAST test done. This is a blood test, the results are not immediate (as in the skin testing) but you will only have to deal with the needle they use to draw the blood.

With a scratch test, they will prick the skin with a needle that has a specified serum (dust, animal, pollens specific to your area).

All material should be clean and sterile. If for some reason you don't trust your doctor, then you should find another doctor. Allergy is a chronic condition. It cannot be cured, it can be controlled. This means you and your doctor are going to have a long term relationship, so you need to have a doctor that you can trust and that makes you comfortable.

you shouldn't ask a medicine from here. go see a dermatologist. ones medicine might not fit your skin.
Reply:Benedryl
Reply:go to the doctor... if it is an allergic reation it could be very serious since its on your face... it could spread into your mouth and down your throat.... go to the doc and get it fixed
Reply:Since you have no idea what is causing the reaction, you should probably go to your doctor. Allergies like this worsen over time. In the meantime, Benadryl started making quick dissolve strips. I used them last year when I had a reaction (to the acid in raw tomato ... go figure); they work quickly since they are being absorbed as soon as you put it on your tongue. At the very least, it helps with the swelling, redness and any itching.

Good luck!

Australian sheppard - skin/ear problems with head shaking and flaking itchy skin?

healthy 4 yr old has chronic ear discharge (black/brown - foul smell), ears are swabbed with cotton - antibiotic drops and now drops for ear mites. skin scales stomach, hind legs and armpits. bathed twice a month with skin tx shampoo - has seasonal allergies but skin problems continue year round.

Australian sheppard - skin/ear problems with head shaking and flaking itchy skin?
Have you looked at his diet? That's usually the first place I go when dealing with an allergic dog.

Chronic ear infections usually go hand-in-hand with allergies.
Reply:ok?
Reply:Need to go to vet immediately. This can turn into something very serious called Ear Hematoma. This happened to my Uncle's dog. It started with irritation, but it got worse.

Eventually what happens is the ear swells up with a blood pouch. Surgery is required, and a dog's ear is never the same. Please get this checked before it develops into this.
Reply:Food Allergy. As a pet store employee, I see this all the time- chronic ear infections and severe skin problems with itching are classic signs.

As far as the 'scaling', it could just be that the problem has gone on long enough for the skin to scale, or it could be a form of mange.

You need to change your food to a (high quality!) dry food with no corn no wheat.

You may have to research how to read labels online, but I can recommend Innova, Avoderm (if no weight problem) some Nutro (check label) california natural, and there are other really good dog foods out there where the company has

used good products instead of wheat %26amp; corn fillers.

The dog will absorb more nutrients, too, so you may see less poop than usual.

There is also a fantastic additive designed for problems like your dog is having, called "Missing Link".

Right now you're only treating the symptoms, not the problem, and with skin that bad the next step is pyoderma- secondary infection caused by itching.

Dog Skin Condition...?

I have a 3 year old fawn colored pitbull who has never had an sort of allergies or skin conditions, she is in great health...She has developed small scabs all over her skin, under her coat...she doesn't scratch or itch and it doesn't seem to be bothering her...but when I look at her skin by pulling her hair in the opposite direction, I can see the scabs, like if she had chicken poxs and then they scabbed over..the scabs are not bad at all there is no puss or anything like that...it looks mild...She is not loosing any hair at all either...Any ideas what she has?

Thanks

Dog Skin Condition...?
Definitely needs a trip to the vet. Things that pop into my mind are a staph infection (generally starts due to some kind of allergy then bacteria moves in causing the pustules), mange (two different kinds), ringworm, general poor nutrition, fleas... Only your vet can tell you for sure and prescribe treatment.
Reply:it may be dangerous so conslut with your vet.
Reply:Go see your vet! Than if you vet says it's nothing dangerous it could be a food allergy. Try to get a senstive skin food. It's go more vitamine E and omega 3 and 6 fatty acids which are good for the skin. Your vet will probly recomend one for you!
Reply:I would recommend a trip to the vet, he/she can examine the skin and see if there is a need for medication or recommend a special shampoo to bathe your dog with. Good Luck.

Im concerned skin rash, allergy, disorder???

Ok for about the last 2 months iv'e been getting these weird rash type of effects on my arms n even now palms, n feet, sumtimes legs.

It's mainly my arms n hands. At first i thought because i work in a warehouse it must be sumthing in there, I come in contact with all kinds of cardboard n dust etc.... some actually seem to have an effect i do believe tho...

The thing is i notice that sometimes it happens off of work also, like on the weekends even or whateva just randomly....

at work tho it seems more vicious they look like red lines that bubble up across my arms and or little dots aswell they irritate me n somewhat itch but i dont feel the need to itch.

but after about 15 20 minutes they fade away n disapear completely.

basically when they bubble up they'll look like a huge mosquito bite, like literally red n bubbled. it can be in the morning, at night big area small area random spots on my arm, upper or lower, top of hands, i even seen on my palm the other day, wtf?!? help

Is this sensitive skin or some sort of allergy?

i have had reactions to cleaning products including some detergents, Mr Muscle and Preen. They cause me to come out in extremely itchy blotchy red or purplish rashes where the stuff was on my skin. Sometimes it looks like a sort of chemical burn. could this be an allergy or allergies of some sort?

Is this sensitive skin or some sort of allergy?
Ofcourse, but dont worry ur not the only one !!

Yes, ur skin is sensitive to the chemical disinfectants in these products... it occurs as a part of body's naturally mediated mechanism of fighting any foreign substance entering the body!!

Commonly these products contain harmful phenols and other organic substances capable of coagulating bacterial proteins to kill them.. when certain genetically prone individuals contact such substances ,..body tries to fight it on imm contact.

Such people are also more prone for other allergic conditions like : Asthma, Hay fever ,Or Allergy to penicillin and penicillin like drugs.

Wat can be done is to patiently desensitize the skin with small amounts of the product causing allergy.. and if thts not possible a course of steroids or antihistaminics can do an effective job once allergy attack has occured.
Reply:It could be an allergy, or it could be a detergent burn. Exposure to certain chemicals, including detergents, can sometimes cause problems like this with the skin, especially if you don't wash them off soon enough. Next time you handle detergent, wear gloves.
Reply:I have both allergy problems and sensitive skin.

Sometimes I'm not sure which is bothering me. I have extremely sensitive skin to salt, even my own tears burn and make the sides of my eyes raw, sweat give me a redish burn on my skin.

Allergies or sensitive skin, stay away from what ever triggers it.

Go to a allergy specialist, then a dermatologist.
Reply:It sounds like you have an allergic reaction to those products.
Reply:Chemicals of any kind can give a person skin irritation. Especially if it's concentrated, or left on for a sufficient length of time. Chemicals like the ones you list are pretty harsh skin irritants. I haven't read the label on these products, but I'd bet they have a warning on them for skin, eyes, ingestion, and vapor exposure. The best bet is to keep the rash you already have clean and apply a light coat of neosporin. The next time you use these products wear some rubber gloves if possible. If it's not possible to wear gloves make sure you clean the exposed areas well with ample amounts of water.

Skin discoloration from metal allergy?

I found out I had a metal allergy from my belt about two years ago. I had a rash and it eventually went away. I am now left with two spots of skin discoloration on my waist area. I am light skinned and the spots are light brownish. Is there a way to get rid of it? Anything a doctor can give me? Did it work for you?

Skin discoloration from metal allergy?
no it is scariing use lotion it might lighten it but it wont go away
Reply:This discoloration is due to lack of blood circulation and nothing else. Please do not worry your self that much ,You do require a doctor advice for this if it is wound a mark due to preassure of your waist belt.Other wise All you have to do is gently massage that part of the body regularly for 15 days or so and every thing will be normal .You should also change the place of wearing your belt from time to time and never wear any thing too tight which will stop blood circulation to the skin .

wishing you all the best in getting rid of the spots on your waist

Can skin/shot allergy tests cause a sinus or ear infection?

Being someone that has had loads of these tests I can honestly say not likely. It is allergy season though so it is most likely the allergies themselves causing it. It may also be your remedy for the allergies causing this. Using Nasal sprays, even pills. Pills can cause fluids to move and..... Things to know Nasal sprays #1 can be addicting, never had it happen, but saw it on the news, and #2 they can cause sinus infections, had that happen. I used a sinus spray to keep the inflammation in check and when I stopped using it the flare up caused an infection. So be careful.

Skin rash. . . . allergy or what?

one day i noticed on red dot, like a mosquito bite on my chest, it itched but i didn't itched it that often, then the next day there were 7, i didn't itch it at all because i blamed the itching from the first day that made the other 6, the it doubled the next day, then it tripled until my whole chest until my waist and back were covered in little red dots and one big one that looks like a hive, i went to the doc and they gave me a cream but the explanation they gave me was like reading the manual for making a computer by scratch, i want to know what the hell is going on with me and why the cream is taking so long to do its thing. . . . any answer would be appreaciated

Here are some alergies that it could be...

Bites can happen year round..

spiders,

or you might have Bed Bugs.... no joke they are a bug to deal with.

I AM NOT SAYING YOU HAVE THEM... JUST TO CHECK IT OUT.....

Where they come from

It often seems that bed bugs come from nowhere. Outbreaks can often be traced to travel, especially in countries or cities where bed bugs are common. Once they're introduced, they often spread room to room throughout a building.

They’re efficient and active travelers, usually transported on luggage, clothing, beds, furniture, etc.

Fighting an infestation is a costly, time-consuming process. They hide in many places, so inspections and treatments must be very meticulous. In most cases, experts recommend enlisting the services of a professional pest control company. Belongings must be removed from the home to be washed or dry-cleaned, followed by thorough vacuuming, before the exterminator can even begin work. It often takes several visits from the exterminator to eradicate the problem

Where to look

Check for bed bugs on the seams, tufts or folds of mattresses or daybed covers.

In severe infestation, bed bugs may be hiding behind baseboards, window and door casings, pictures and frames, in furniture, loosened wallpaper, cracks in plaster and the like.

Hiding places can often be discovered by keeping an eye out for black or brown spots of dried insect excrement and dried blood on surfaces on which the bed bugs rest. Eggs, eggshells and cast skins may also be found in bug resting places

Don't panic

Bear in mind that although incidence of bed bugs in the United States is increasing, they remain rare in comparison to most other household pests.

Bites that appear overnight could indeed be caused by bed bugs, but one cannot assume that any bite means an infestation. There are other variables that can cause a skin reaction, unrelated to any type of insect.

Knowing what bed bugs look like can prompt you to call a professional early so you avoid an infestation.

Other insects can also resemble bedbugs. Carefully compare bed bugs with reference images. If any questions remain, call a pest control expert.

Also, bear in mind that bug-related fears and hallucinations could be caused by amphetamine use, drug abuse, or schizophrenia.

Clean!

-Consider repairing breaks in wallpaper, chips in paint, or other wall or floor cracks and crevices where bed bugs might hide.

-Inspect, vacuum and caulk crevices.

-Throw out any clutter that you don’t need. Bed bugs can hide anywhere, even in stacks of paper or books. Minimize the amount of places where the pests can hide.

-Inspect the bed: Run your fingers along the seams of bedding and the mattress. Check the mattress tag as it may harbor bugs. Examine the box spring, the bed frame, and remove the headboard if possible. Wooden frames make a better bed bug habitat than metal frames.

-Also check the bedside table. Look for signs of bed bugs in the drawers and along the wall on the side of the bed.

-Vacuum all mattresses.

-Wash clothes and bedding, and dry them on high heat.

-Seal anything that may have been exposed to bed bugs in plastic bags. Dispose of used vacuum bags in plastic bags too.

Exterminate

Because bed bugs are tough to get rid of, experts recommend hiring a professional exterminator. Experienced companies know where to look for bed bugs, and have an assortment of tools at their disposal.

Do NOT, for any reason, use insecticide on a mattress unless the label specifically mentions such use. Most household sprays are not suitable for application to mattresses.

Does anyone know how much it costs for allergy skin tests for dogs? Also, how much are the shots? Thanks!?

having allergy testing done on my dog was $200 (i think) and his allergy injections were $150 per bottle.

if you are thinking about having allergy testing done, see if you can have blood allergy testing as opposed to having your dogs skin poked with different allergens. blood testing is less expensive and the results are the same.

Does anyone know how much it costs for allergy skin tests for dogs? Also, how much are the shots? Thanks!?
I'm not sure about the test. It depends on your insurance. But where I live, the shots are about $8 each.
Reply:Never heard of a test, but I had a chow that was allergic to fleas and they gave him a shot once a year for ten dollars, its probably twenty now.

Some breeds of dogs are allergic than others, your vet will know.
Reply:If you call your vet, they will be able to estimate the charges. If you don't have a vet, contact the county animal control and they can suggest a vet and or do the tests you need. I would suggest contacting a friend in your area that has a dog and see who they use and then call them. Most vets have a service schedule (price list) to kind of ball park the costs.
Reply:A trip to the dermatologist for dogs can run around $1200.

An easier way to help a dog with allergies is to find what he is allergic to by taking everything out of the equation. Start with the most common -Food. Most dogs have a food allergy. You can by

Hill's Prescription Diet Z/D formula it is a vegetarian dog food. Don't give any treats. Just feed this food. If symptoms clear up you know it is food related. Dogs can be allergic to common proteins, like chicken beef. Also wheat and corn. Wheat Gluten. Red food dye.

Next continue with the Z/D food, and take away all household irritants like room deodorizers, carpet cleaning powders, use Purfume Free Detergents. No Febreeze. No pinesol.

Also bath dog in Hypoallergenic shampoo.

Make sure dog is on Frontline or Advantage. If it is a flea allergy then that will give the dog hot spots, as well as being very itchy. Flea allergies, and food are the MOST common.

Hope this helps.

PS Don't store food in Plastic container or feed in Metal or Plastic bowl only feed in glass bowl. Could be allergic to metal or plastic.
Reply:Call your vet's office they'll be able to give you some idea of the cost.

What is herbal remedy for allergy skin irritation all over the body?

Combine 1 cup oatmeal, 1 cup warm water, 1 Tbls. vanilla extract, and 1/2 cup baking soda in a blender or food processor until you have a smooth paste. Pour this paste under the running water while drawing the bath. Very soothing to dry, itchy skin.

http://kitchen.robbiehaf.com/HomeRemedie...

...Also Aveeno has an oatmeal bath that might help...Whether you're suffering from poison ivy, sunburn, or eczema, you know that the itching can drive you crazy. Soaking for 15 to 20 minutes in Aveeno Bath can help soothe your sensitive skin. The powder, made of 100 percent pure colloidal oatmeal, forms a milky bath when mixed in water. The Aveeno bath gently cleans ... no soap is necessary. When you're ready to step out of the tub, you'll find that your skin is softer, smoother and--best of all--your itchiness has been relieved.

Tip: Don't undo the effects of your soothing bath by using improper drying techniques. Be kind to your skin ... always pat it dry after bathing. (No rubbing with a towel!)

There is also alleraid which is natural and is sold at nature stores. Hope you feel better.

Why I have allergy skin on my face?

The symptom is like a rash and itch and dry

Why I have allergy skin on my face?
The most common cause of allergies is a plugged up elimination system and dehydration. Try eliminating dairy including milk, cheese, pizza, etc... for a week combined with drinking 6-8 glasses of distilled water. Switch the salt you are using to unrefined sea salt.

Also consider a gluten(wheat) free diet if ending dairy does not affect your allergic symptoms.

Consider rinsing your face with diluted apple cide vinegar.

Drink unsweetened fruit juices every day. Add a tablespoon of raw unfiltered apple cider vinegar and a dash of cinnamon to your fruit juice.

Drink a shot glass of grape juice with one small drop of wild oregano oil, a tablespoon of apple cider vinegar, cinnamon for taste every morning until symptoms pass.

Consider a Magnesium supplement and Vitamin C supplement plus MSM daily if the above suggestions do not heal your allergic reaction

Allergies are not a disease. Allergies are indicators that your body is mineral deficient, plugged up, and or dehydrated. Most everyone is all of the above but rather than increasing mineral intake, cleansing the body, and drinking clean water, we want a doctor to make the symptoms go away so we can go on as before with no dietary or lifestyle changes. Listen to your body and it can heal itself with food and water.

Yah Bless

My golden retriever had an allergy skin test 2 weeks ago?

and his blood was sent to Heska labs in CO for additional testing. It came back just 5 days later and the vet is being very vague about the results. He now wants to try a food allergy test because he feels allergy shots won't help. I asked to see the results from the lab and fortunately that particular vet was not there, so they gave me the results (his tech gave them to be with great hesitation). I am curious. Has anyone had their dog tested with just the blood test and how many allergens they actually test for. I have been doing some research and see where others have been tested for foods, grains, environmental, but it appears my dog was just tested for a few things (no foods at all). Is this vet just looking for a sucker to pay off his new beach house (that would be me) or do they only test for a few things? Please advise ASAP... I love my golden more than anything and don't like being taken by someone who knows I would do anything for my baby.

My golden retriever had an allergy skin test 2 weeks ago?
I would definatly go to another Vet.

Allergies are serious business, and if your Vet is just going to not decide to tell your results, then there is something wrong.

Especially if your dog isn't allergic and they decide to make you pay for expensive allergy treatment, they could just be wanting money.
Reply:If I were you I would tell them directly and bluntly that they are being too vague about the results and you want a full explanation of what they found. It is your pet and you have the right to know what the test results are. I would call them or go back in and tell them you need a full explanation of what's been found so far. If they say they need to do further testing then ask them what on the other test results lead them to think they needed more testing.
Reply:first off CALL YOUR BREEDER...

second,, tell us what you are feeding your dog?? look at the ingredients and see if there is corn, wheat, soy , by-products listed ...

third,, i wouldn't go to a vet who was "hesitant" to fully go over all testing done on my dog
Reply:A lot of vets feel that the blood test is not accurate for food allergies. The number of allergens tested for depends on the type of test submitted. My educated guess would be that there wasn't many allergens that your pet was severely allergic to, therefore allergy sensitization would not be beneficial. I would encourage you to talk to your vet about why he wants to put your pet on a food trial and what allergens your pet was allergic to.
Reply:Have 2 goldens, my heart, both of them, 6th and 7th goldens to gild my life. Are you sure it's allergies or could it be hot spots which GR are prone to. (Vet told me to apply Witch Hazel to dry up that condition.

Usually corn is the ingredient responsible for skin allergies in dogs, check your ingredients. My kids love (did an actual taste test with them) Pedigree lamb and rice (won over Pedigree chicken - contains corn-, both products in each bowl.)

Don't have a clue about blood work tests. Wonder why you're sure it's allergies.

"aaawwwuuuuuf" from my kids to yours.
Reply:i would definitely find a new vet. you are entitled to the results and any information regarding your pet, the vet should be willing to discuss this with you without hesitation. one of my dogs was scratching badly and the vet first did a skin acrap to rule out mange, gave her some itch meds. we discussed diet and i was advised to have my family stop giving her table treats. if things didn't improve within a week or 2 then my vet suggested we do allergy test. guess what table food was the culprit, i think your vet didn't have the best interest of your pet at heart
Reply:I had a Golden Retriever that had allergies. What are your dog's symptoms? My dog would bite and lick so much that he'd become bald. We figured out that he was allergic to fleas and would take him to the vet to get a cortizone shot. That is some kind of steroid shot that worked wonders for my dog! Give it a try. As for that vet of yours, any vet who is hesitant in giving results to you should make you wonder about his confidence in the kind of vet he is. Take those results to another vet and get a 2nd opinion. A 2nd opinion is always good. Let me know how he's doing
Reply:The blood tests are extremely inaccurate, but the only option for dogs. I don't know why your vet only tested for a few things, maybe he doesn't hold much stock in the blood tests? You might ask him why it was done the way it was. If you are not satisfied with his answer, then yes, find another vet. Just understand that the results you are looking for may not be found in a blood test.

Many times, the best way to find food allergies is with an exclusion diet.

Allergy skin test, what do they test for?

I am having one done and was wondering if there is list out there of what they test for.

Allergy skin test, what do they test for?
I have had an allergy test done. It is no big deal, just itches. I don't know exactly were the list is what they test for, but they test for airborn allergins: grass seed, tree pollen, plant pollens, cat dander, dog dander, other animals. I'm not sure exactly what plants, trees and grasses they use. It may be specific to the region you live in, but I found you a couple of sites to look at. The test is more irritating than painful. I have always found webmd to provide helpful hints and the mayoclinic is awesome for most all medical type questions. Hope this is helpful.
Reply:The test can run from pollen, grasses, mold, foods, pets, dander, medicine, etc. It really depends on your history of allergies.

I was tested for about 7 different things I think, on my left forearm. My dad was tested for about 20 - on his back.
Reply:they now do several tests for almost anything, there are different panels they can run or pick things out if they think they know what they are looking for. they can do this with a simple blood draw now, they dont have to do all the pin pricks and rubbing things on you. talk to your doctor because it is expensive. ive tested people for just one kind of panel and it cost them over $100. it will be different in other parts of the states. goodluck.
Reply:When I was tested, they did 30 items: dogs, cats, horses, feather, weeds, trees, grasses, dust, molds, feather and cockroaches.

I was allergic to everything but feathers and cockroaches. But once you know, you can take steps to prevent coming in contact with most of these, with the exception of a pet. I had a cat, and I told them giving her up was not an option so I had to go on daily meds.

When do they do the allergy skin prick test on your forearm?

I often hear from people I know and meet about their allergy prick test expirience. All of them have told me that they had the allergy prick test done on their back. However, when I look up photos of allergy prick test on the internet most of the photos show the test is often done on the right forearm and occaisionally the left forearm. When exactly do they do the allergy prick test on the forearm instead of the back?

When do they do the allergy skin prick test on your forearm?
the forarms were where they originally had them, but recently they have started on the back (which is less painful)...just for cosmetic reasons..you wouldn't want all those bumps in plain sight would you? btw there is no real difference btwn the 2...there is no steping stone thing going on here.
Reply:now most testing of adults is done on the arm, they usually do the testing on the back for a child, so the child can't reach and scratch.
Reply:My allergy test was done on my forearm and upper arm. Hurt like crazy, and it turned out I'm not allergic to anything.
Reply:You can tell them what you want, back or arm. If you don't tell them your preference, they will choose which one is more convenient for them.

TX Mom
Reply:The back gives them a more accurate answer but you can choose the forearm if you want. Its up the the person and doctor
Reply:When you give them $800...
Reply:I have never seen this done on the forearm.

As a nurse and as an allergy patient, I would know.

Allergy testing is done on the back of the upper arm.

It is done in a specific pattern to determine a persons allergic reaction to substances.
Reply:it's not when it's done but who does it, My wife has had the tests done many time and only once on the back when she asked the nurse why? she replied that's ho the doctor like it done, so we figured, it really the same, either way
Reply:the pinprick is an indicator to allergic reaction,if you are allergic to a substance , the skin around the spot will go red as your antibodies attack the spot may also become itchy

the area tested is based on preference of the tester.
Reply:I had allergy testing done 5-6 yrs ago. It was done on my back. It is more accurate. Because the hives merged into each other, I also had to get blood drawn for more of an accurate and confirmation of allergies. If you suspect allergic reaction to the environment/food etc consult your PCP.
Reply:could be choice. I worked =for an alergist and we always did them on the back. Larger area and no sleeves to both the places.

For anyone who has had skin scratch allergy testing...?

When the skin scratch tests are done, is ANY wheal a positive or do they have to be so big? I found one site that said 3 mm up and another that said any reaction at all. When our son had his done at the first allergist, they tested 21 foods and cat(plus the controls). It seemed to me that there were 7 or 8 that were raised about the same and a few that were just tiny and other spots you couldn't even tell he'd been poked. Three were even still quite noticeable several hours later!

Our son was only 7 months old old when this first set was done so we realize that the results may not be entirely accurate, that either he hadn't had enough exposure to an allergen to show a positive reaction and that others his body may just be too immature to handle.

The allergist he was seeing only recorded one positive result besides the control. We have since changed allergists because I was feeling the first was incompetant and I am wondering if we shoudl not ask the new allergist to redo them.

For anyone who has had skin scratch allergy testing...?
From my point of view I would say that yes you should get the test redone with the new allergist that you trust. It is VERY IMPORTANT to know what he is allergic to so that it can be avoided .

However, please know that it tends to be a long process to fully understand allergies and that not everything may show up on either of the tests. I am highly allergic to milk but it doesn't show up on the skin test or the RAST. It was only through trying a small sample in front of the allergist that he was able to fully diagnosis it.

Talk to your allergist and voice your concerns. Be very vocal and ask him EVERY question, even the ones you may think are silly. I would bring up the smaller bumps with the new allergist and get his opinion, he may tell you what everyone else is saying but at least you will have a definite answer. This is your sons life your talking about and you have the responsibility to do everything you can to keep him safe.
Reply:he seem to young to get testing done

I think you can get blood test done, might be easier

then you can do the skin test when he is older
Reply:You are your child's best advocate. Get as many opinions as you feel comfortable with. Don't ever feel bad about that. A mom's gut instinct is sometimes better than any opinion.

My son has a yet to be diagnosed allergy. Our physicians have told us that unfortunately testing can be limited sometimes and one of the best ways to figure this out is trial and error, keeping a diary of foods and exposures and then eliminating and re-intoducing things one at a time with at least 48 hours in between starting new foods/other exposures. Good luck.

For lab owners, question about dry skin..?

our girl has dry itchy skin, no allergies. and no fleas... yes i am sure, and so is her vet, believe me we thouroughly checked..

she does have areas of dry skin,,,,,,

the first soap was oatmeal.. paid almost ten dollars for it, but honestly it smelled like cheap dollar store stuff.. and she was even more itchy..

i tried one at my in-laws house when we were there, it again was almost ten buck, but it had oatmeal, and baking soda, now it smelled really nice, light, and mild... she seemed to be fine after..

well it has been about 2 wks, and she seems to be ithcing really bad again...

any suggestions? she got really filthy and muddy, needs a bath. but any ideas of what to try???

For lab owners, question about dry skin..?
Oatmeal actualy soaks a bit of moisture and oils as it works and is better for acne than dry skin. What are you feeding her? How often do you bathe her? too much bathing can also cause dry skin. Try an egg every other day or 1/2 can of dog food mixed with kibble till it goes away. I have seen these methods work for labs specifically. You can also try adding cooking oils to her food, but contact your vet as to which kind to use as I am no expert.
Reply:I like Clinique and or Nivea.

What products have you used before? There may be a certain ingredient you are allergic to. First see a dermatologist to make sure there isn't anything serious going on.

I'm not sure if you have tried Mary Kay products before, but you should. My director has acne, rosacea, eczema and skin allergies and used everything her dermatologist recommended and nothing worked. She has been using Mary Kay for about 3 years and her skin in beautiful! You would never know she has those problems.

Mary Kay's products are hypo-allergenic (provokes fewer allergic reactions), non-comedogenic (won't clog pores), oil-free, fragrance-free, dermatologist tested and recommended.

If you haven't tried it before, go to www.marykay.com and contact a consultant in your area. You can try everything for free! If you purchase something and it doesn't work out for you, you can return it or exchange it for the full value - even if you've used it.

Best of luck to you!
Reply:ask your doctor and if she ain't sure just call a mary kay consultant.

Reply:See a dermatologist. They can perscribe helpful medication.

Also, I don't know how many types of makeup you've tried but there are several types of hypoalergenic makeups made specifically for very sensetive skin. Though they are much mroe expensive.

I believe Clinique has a line of hypoallergenic makeup.

But most of all see a dermatologist.
Reply:I know they make make-up for sensitive skin, so look for that. You could also go to a dermatologist and she what she suggests. They might have something that could help you.
Reply:you have a dry scaly skin what your skin suggests .you should apply seassame oil to your body and massage it properly, do not apply soam ,take warm water bath %26amp; then cold shower, that will open the pores in you skin, make your skin breath and excreat properly. try to any kind of make up. try to remain as natural as you can. try to observe changes in your skin texture. take lots of water fruits greens %26amp; germinating seeds.
Reply:Apply vitamins to your skin with Herbalife's NouriFusion! Especially use the Skin Activator.

Has anyone used the skin care line ORIGINS?

Im looking to invest in a different skin care line. I have very sensitive skin and allergies to chemicals.... have you used Origins and what did you think?

Has anyone used the skin care line ORIGINS?
Origins skin care is wonderful for sensitive skin - I used it for years. The only problem is that they discontinued their moisturizer that goes along with the sensitive line (which is why I switched). The beauty advisor at the store should be able to recommend a good moisturizer for you.
Reply:I use origins, and it is very nice. it's all organic, so there' none of those chemicals to hurt your skin. you should consider it.
Reply:No but I heard it was all organic.
Reply:i have used it for a while. it works really well on my combonation sensitive skin. try checks and balances. Expensive but worth it.

I suggest origins for you and anyone else
Reply:My sister and I used origins. Expensive but well worth it. Kept skin clear and soft. I recommend the clay mask!
Reply:I got a free sample of it in the mail. It smells good and works pretty good too for the short time I used it. Helped my complexion. I'd invest in it, I was actually thinking of picking up some.
Reply:Origins is very good, but also try DHC. http://www.dhccare.com/dhc/

Great products! They will send you free samples if you want to try something before buying it.

Itchy ears, dry skin on face allergy?

started getting daily headaches 5yrs ago. itchy ears started sametime as headaches. left ear inside itches so bad wakes me up. the more i scratch, the more it itches. i can't help but scatch the inside. have dry skin in creases around nose and bad dandruff. allergic to dust, cat and ragweed and cows milk, i've covered bed and pillows with allergen procter, but no relief. every cream try doesn't work. seeing ENT and ALLERGIST but not for months. can itchy ears be allergy to dust? what can i do? want to rip off ears and head for headaches.

Itchy ears, dry skin on face allergy?
here are some tips I found but then you have to remember our body has only a small handful of symtoms yet thousands of illinesses.

an allergic reaction to your blood pressure medicine is a possibility. Some people have seborrheic dermatitis (dandruff) of the ear canals or psoriasis, another itchy skin disorder.

Acetic acid and cortisone are both standard treatments for itchy ears. You might try Cortisporin-Otic eardrops that are a combination anti-bacterial and steroid. Or you could use a stronger prescription steroid, like triamcinolone, to get relief.

Causes of itchy ears:

Ear canal skin is very sensitive. The slightest accumulation of debris, even a dead hair, may be felt as an itching sensation. We will next discuss the most common causes of itchy ears.

Dry ears are itchy:

A normal ear has a thin layer of natural body oil. Some ears produce no ear wax which results in dry and itchy ear skin. Sometimes people compulsively clean their ears and dry them out by removing the natural wax. Dry ears tend to accumulate flakes of dry dead skin.

For people who just lack ear wax, occasional insertion of a few drops of vegetable oil can be helpful. For people who compulsively clean out their ears, we advise scheduled appointments for ear cleaning, usually every 6 months, and avoidance of use of 'q' tips, or similar instruments in between.

with your other problems you do sound like you suff from many types of allergys. Bad thing about allergys is it takes along time to find the exact case, and could be a combination of reactions. With all the flaking in other areas sounds like a form of exema, which there are many types in different areas.

good luck I am sure this is driving you crazy
Reply:go to a dermatologist. you need an expert but it sounds to me like xmah
Reply:never heard of this , but nothing works over night, you need to keep seeing the doctors.
Reply:I do not khow what it is but whatever it is I pray it goes away..
Reply:Oh dear...you sound like you are in a lot of pain. I think you really need to go see a doctor for an accurate diagnosis.

Someone please help. Im 22 and I have never broke out before. I tried taking allergy med's to see if it would help, but nothing!

SKIN BREAKING OUT????????never happened before?
If your skin is breaking out dont use any moisturizers cause it will clog your pimples and break it out MORE! i use nuetragena face wash also check your make up that 2 can break your skin out bad! if nothing else works check with your doctor:)
Reply:Go see a dermatologist. It may not be acne but some kind of allergic reaction. If nothing you are doing is helping you may even be making it worse. Go see someone right away.

YOu could have late appearing acne, or more likely, you have exzema or rosacea - all of which can be treated, but you need help from a dermatologist. The more crap you buy at the store to treat something that you don't know you have, you may irritate your skin more, making it worse and encouraging long term scarring. please see a doctor.

Sensitive skin? Sun allergy? Rosacea? What is this!?

I’ve always had slightly reddish skin on my cheeks, nose, and chin, and have always flushed very easily (people must think I’m embarrassed all the time, but I’m not). I recently read about rosacea and immediately thought that I must have it. But I have other symptoms that rosacea is not supposed to cause…

Sometimes my face flushes for absolutely no reason, and feels hot and irritated at the same time. My skin turns bright red, feels like it is being stretched, and even feels hot to the touch, like I’m feverish. It also feels like every ounce of moisture has simply left my skin. It’s EXACTLY like the feeling of sitting too close to a campfire. I’ve tried pinpointing foods, alcohol, skin care products that I use, clothes I wear, etc., and I can’t find a trigger. I know that physical exertion, warm temperatures, and bright sunlight definitely make it worse, but it happens sometimes when none of these factors are present.

These “attacks” have been happening to some degree for over 5 years now (I’m almost 29), but for the last year or so they seem to have become much more frequent. Now that summer is here (which means more heat and sunlight), it’s happening nearly every day. I’m embarrassed to go out in public with people because I’m afraid my face is going to light up.

Could I have rosacea AND sensitive skin? Or could this be something else entirely?

Sensitive skin? Sun allergy? Rosacea? What is this!?
Go to your dermatologist and have them diagnose it.
Reply:I would get checked for lupus. It is a connective tissue disorder and this is one of the symptoms. Sorry, it is not a good disease.
Reply:I don't know if it is rosacea because one of my white friends has it and I think it was a condition she had for most of her life. I don't think that it can just occur especially in your 20s. But you could have a sensitive skin condition.

You should definitely see a dermatologist.
Reply:I suspect you damaged your skin from repeated exposure to heat which can be confused with rosacea. My suggestion is too strictly avoid heat including all forms for two years. This includes the heat from the sun(suntanning), saunas, steam from cooking, sitting under hot lights, etc. On hot days, avoid putting suntan lotion, heavy makeup, or heavy moisturing on your skin. The oils and lotions will trap in the heat. When you excercise, take a water bottle and spray your face to keep your skin cool. Don't put steroid creams on your face, they thin the skin(atrophy). Spicey food and hot drinks will still cause your skin to flush because you have thin skin and a reduced ability to sweat on your face. I left you the link of the name of the condition I think you have. You don't need to have mottle skin to have it, just redness(erythema).
