I can't have: Wheat, oats, crab, strawberries, oranges, apples, potatoes, any seed or nut, carrots, tomatoes, corn, or soy. Essentailly, I can have rice, milk, meats, bananas (I hate them), and grapes. Help!
[Recently allergy tested because my skin and stomach suddenly decided to hate me.]
Food allergies are making me Crazy!! Have any recipes without...?
Wow.
Can you have all dairy products? There are many many receipes at recipes.com; I would however see what you can do to substitute ingredients by experiementing. Sounds like you can do meatloaf (use cooked rice for the agent); can you have breads, etc., made with rice flour?
A good salad is chopped turkey with grapes and a little mayo. There is the Greek dish of onions wrapped in grape leaves and baked. (I forgot what it is called). Rice pudding sound like you can eat that. Can you use some of these foods in small portions? For example, can you use a little tomato to make baste or just a little sauce?
You can use beef and chicken broth/drippings with corn starch to make a gravy to have change of pace as opposed to plain meat.
Sounds like you can do the pasta route - lots of pasta dishes - Alfredos, primovera, the white cheese and sauce dishes.
Good luck.
(And write a cookbook from the receipes you collect. )
Reply:I didn't even know it was possible to be allergic to all of those things. Are you sure it isn't something else - something in your environment, or maybe your refrigerator? That just doesn't sound right...
You can have more than that though...what about other vegetables? Broccoli, celery, cucumbers, etc. Are you allergic to legumes (beans and such) as well as nuts?
Reply:Look into the FAAN. Food Allergy and Anaphylactic Network. They will lead you in the right direction. Also there are many support groups for people with food allergies. Go find one.
Reply:That seems weird. Have you tried milk with cinnamon and sugar over rice (cooked rice)? Good for breakfast instead of bread or oats. Kabobs= meat, usually with rice, so that's an idea. Fried plantains instead of bananas? I'd be looking for a way to control or get a second opinion because you are left with a not very healthy diet.

Vitamin c allergies,,symptoms of allergie?
is a burning sensation of the skin a symptom of vitamin c allergies
Vitamin c allergies,,symptoms of allergie?
Your body NEEDS vitamin C to survive, I do not think you are allergic to it (nearly all vegetables have at least a minute amount in them anyways, so you couldn't avoid it). Go to the doctors and get a check done on that burning sensation, it can be anything from sunburn to something more serious.
Reply:Actually u can be allergic to anything, if its not the vitamin C, it could be the constituent in the tablet. Signs of allergic reaction includes rash and redness on the skin, swollen tongue lips, etc. My safest bet is that u stop anything that u just recently started may it be the vit C tablets or anything else otherwise, and take an antihistamine tablet and see how it goes. If it doesnt get any better and gets worst within a day, then you have to see a dr.

How will i know that my zit like skin is not an allergy or a german measles??
German measles will go away and there is no pus. Allergies in the areas where there is acne are usually caused by contact with something to which you are allergic.
Acne is caused when the pores become blocked (black heads, become whiteheads and infection may follow) untreated it may leave nasty scarring. Treatment is usually very successful.
Go to Google Images and you will see what all three look like. Acne is pretty easy to spot - no pun intended.

Do I have allergies?? Heat rash?
For a while now I've been having moments where out of nowhere I notice scratches on my skin. I think it may be allergies. I'm unsure though. I do plan on getting allergy test done next week. I've been so busy lately, I have not had a chance, but I will now. I'll have to take a day off from work.. cause I was taking a nap, and I woke up with this. Anybody think it's something else. I took a benedryl and put some benedryl cream on. Can allergies cause me to do this??
this sometimes happens when I'm awake. I did notice I was wearing some PJ's that could of irratated it. Also I had the heat on. What do you think?

Do I have allergies?? Heat rash?
I have gotten this exact thing before, they told me it was allergies. I never was able to figure out what it was from. I do know that you aren't supposed to take benadryl by mouth and the cream at the same time. I have used that Gold Bond intense moisturizer in the green bottle. It was menthol and it does really soothe the itchy skin.
Reply:looks like u scratched urself unconsiously and then after a while the welts come up. yes have ur alergy tests. do u have any spots/ rash? do u itch all over especially early morning like 4am? does any one else in close contact with u have the same symptoms? it may take up to 6 weeks for symptoms to appear. if all the normal allergy tratments dont work do not rule out scabies. look it up, compare symptoms and ask ur doctor. just pointing this out to u because doctors seem to sometimes ignore the possibility. hopefully its something easy to treat. maybe ur allergic to dust, or are u using a new perfume for example.hope u get to the bottom of this fast. good luck.
Reply:Could be allergies or hives. You should go see a doctor or dermatologist or something. Just get some cream for that pronto!
If you can't get it checked out anytime soon, buy some Aloe Vera and put it on a few times a day to relieve the itching/redness. Also, try not to wear anything irritating to your skin..especially those pj's you mentioned about.

Are there any Home remedies for skin condition assoc w/allergy?
My husband is having a serious reaction to the coolant used in the Machine shop he works at. This condition looks and feels very much like poison oak with the blistering and irritation.
Are there any Home remedies for skin condition assoc w/allergy?
If you are sure that this is a specific reaction to the coolant, it would be best for him to use a protective barrier on the skin area/s exposed, i.e. for the hands/arms: disposable latex gloves (elbow length if necessary);
if it is an allergic reaction, this should treat and then reduce the symptoms.
If he does this and the symptoms persist, he should see his doctor or dermatologist.
Good luck.

Alright, so let's look at this more closely. What it really sounds like you're asking is "Is there a natural remedy my husband can take that will make his body's wise symptoms go completely away...?" Yeah. There is: Stop exposing your sacred, delicate and extremely fragile skin to chemicals that are literally eating that skin alive, got it? That or wear gloves when dealing w/ the chemicals, or better yet, get a new job, one where you're not exposed to poisons. Seems like a no brainer to me.
On a slightly nicer note: Bach Flower Rescue Remedy Cream works wonders for almost any skin eruption. Aloe gel will help too, as will homeopathic sulfur, usually, especially if he is one who "picks" at himself. Your asking for a "cure", when he's just going to expose himself to the same stuff over and over again, is rather a ridiculous waste of all our times and energies, is it not? Imagine, for a moment, what all those fumes are doing to his lungs, kidneys and liver...Rather than trying to "shut his skin up" and suppress its message, isn't it really, truly time to find another way to earn money, besides doing something that will literally kill him? And here's another clue, if his hands are that much of a wreck, I can pretty much guarantee you he isn't following OSHA safety protocols and guidelines for handling toxic substances...time to wake up, kids.
Reply:Try rubbing his skin with a chammomile tea bag
Reply:There are no home remedies for situations like this. The best remedy probably is for your husband to change his job. Most allergies disappear once you stay away from the causative agent.
Reply:sounds like he has a reaction to glycol or other cutting fluids/oils,assuming that is what they are using as coolants.he should check with the epa safety person at the plant.of course if it is a small operation then he may find no help.constant exposure even with treatment is not going to work.change coolants or.........

Allergies to fruit and vegetable skins/peels only?
I seem to be mildly allergic to certain fruit and vegetables, but only the skins. Canned, peeled, or cooked I have no reactions at all (with one exception below). Raw apples, plums, and pears irritate my gums and lips even when I wash them thoroughly. When I peel potatoes I sneeze and get a runny nose. Eating raw potato even without the skin also irritates the back of my throat but not my lips and gums like apples and pears do. (A little salt on raw potato tastes pretty good!) I just generally avoid eating these items, but I hate to not eat them at all. The symptoms usually subside after a half hour or a little more.
I just didn't know if this is very common or a sign of something more serious I might not be aware of. Does anyone else have this same thing? I hate popping antihistamines for everything but I might have to try that.
Allergies to fruit and vegetable skins/peels only?
This is called Oral Allergy Syndrome, or OAS. With this syndrome, cooking reduces the proteins that cause your allergic reaction. Please read the following for a list of foods you may be allergic to:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Oral_allerg...
If a food causes discomfort, USE CAUTION. This mild allergic reaction you are experiencing may suddenly become anaphylaxis, which is deadly. The more allergic reactions you have, the more likely the next one will be anaphylaxis.
Regarding eating raw potatoes, raw potatoes contain a toxin called glycoalkaloid. This toxin may make you slightly ill.
Reply:Like the previous person said, this is oral allergy syndrome. Good luck.
Reply:Yes, it is oral allergy syndrome. I used to have it too. It is linked with pollen allergies. After I was on allergy desensitation shots for five years, my allergy to raw fruits and vegetables went away.

Cat has baldness, red flakey skin, what could his allergy be? On steroids; is there complimentary treatment?
For a few years my mother's cat has gradually been losing its fur. At first we didn't realise. Now he has a red flakey patch on his side around his hip and thigh area. He is going bald there but I think that might be because he licks it so much; I have seen him washing it quite vigorously, and it's always damp from drool. He does not like to be touched there.
In his ear he has a raised red area, circular, about 1cm radius, as well as redness around the eyes. The vet took a sample from the ear irritation and it wasn't ringworm or anything.
He gets steroids daily. My mother reckons that this helps but it's still pretty bad. She also sometimes puts some sudocrem on the ear. She believes the drugs cause fur yellowing. His fur is generally thin and dull.
What could he be allergic to? Mum seems to think it's because of his micro-chipping but I am not convinced. Could it be household cleaner? What could be some good things to put on the ear and side, and to brighten his fur?
Thanks
Cat has baldness, red flakey skin, what could his allergy be? On steroids; is there complimentary treatment?
My cat started losing fur in spots and getting red scabby splotches, so I changed his food and that helped...
Reply:feed him eggs, this will brighten the coat. I would get a second opinion on the ringworm thing. That causes irritation, redness and hair loss.
Reply:Why hasn't the vet done an allergy test to see if the cat does have allergies? And, I would get the cats thyroid checked...it's often called a T4 blood test.
Reply:Could be fleas, food allergy, underlying disease? They do make steroid shots that you can get every 4-6 weeks instead of pills. Is his fur yellow, or is it his skin underneath. If it's his skin have him seen at the vet. It would be worth running bloodwork on this pet to check for an underlying disease. When cats are sick they tend not to care for their coat well. How old is the cat? Age can play a big part as well. To rule out food you may want to try a sensitive skin brand (Purina pro plan or science diet) or a limited ingredients diet (Purina salmon and brown rice for example). Purina is great for a nice shiny coat and you can also try derm caps from your pet store. it's omega 3 fatty acids very good for the coat. Likelihood is the micro chipping did not cause the allergy.
Reply:Does your mom use any products to freshen or clean her carpets? My roommate's cat had this same problem and we finally figured out the Arm and Hammer powder stuff you sprinkle on the carpet was irritating her skin.
Also fabric softeners can irritate a cat's skin.
Reply:Have you had the cat to a vet, an animal doctor. Where did you get the steroids from Your cat has a hormonal problem more so if it is a male if he has been neutered young then this does happen
your cat also could have mange, like scabies in humans Once again you should have vet advice
It can be cured The ear of a cat is very delicate and sensitive this also could be mange No wonder cat does not like it touched
He is washing himself frequently because the area affected is hot and irritating
The eyes of cats are very delicate Has the cat fleas?
The mange mite that causes mange is under the skin, where eggs are laid , hatch and then feed on the blood and any waste from them
Reply:He could be allergic to the dry food if you feed that. Check out www.veterinarysecretsrevealed.com. There is an elimination diet listed somewhere in there. It takes about 12 weeks to tell what ingredient he is allergic to but at least you'll know if it's the food.

Pale skin complexion?
I have pale skin, my dad also, but i was wondering, could allergies do this to me? i suffer from allergies. Can you recommend any skin cream, or anything, not a tanning product, i dont want to fake tan my face. I just want it to look fresh and healthier. Thank you.
Pale skin complexion?
If you eat lots of carrots and pumpkin and olive oil. You will gradually see a change. There is a product called holiday skin which is a moisturiser with slight tanning agent in it.
Reply:No. Your germainc heritiage did that to you.
No creams, huh?
You can try tanning pills- but beware:

ok.
Sun booth for you.
concerning "fake" tans
And, only the cheap stuff looks bad.
If you go to a professional place- it looks real.
Please concider non-sun. Skin cancer knows where you live.
Reply:Allergies would not cause pale skin, but they can appear more strongly on pale skin.
Many people with nasal alergies also get dark circles under their eyes, doctors call them "allergy shiners".
If you really don't want fake tanner you should just aim for plenty of water, sleep, and at least 15 minutes of sunshine everyday, just eat your cereal on the patio in the morning.
Otherwise several brands have "gradual" tanners that are primaraly a lotion with a very light percent of tanner in them, that gradually build to a tan look in about 3-5 days.
"Jergens makes one, although it has a slight chemically smell when first applied. I buy "Dove" which smells faintly of apples.
When you reach the level of tan you want you stop applying it everyday, and switch to everyother, or 2 x a week to maintain.
Since it is so light you don't have to be perfect when you apply it. Even if you are sloppy you won't get finger smudges, etc.
Good luck!
Reply:Could allergies cause pale skin? No. But pale skin tends to be more sensitive.
If you want a skin cream, look for something that moisturizes but is hypoallergenic or fragrance-free and dye-free. There are tons of brands to choose from depending on your price range, like Olay, Dove, Aveeno, Neutrogena are ones I like. There are products specifically for men, too, but I don't know as much about what is available.

I went in for a skin prick test and was tested on common allergens . Now I am curious about something.....?
Okay, went in for a skin prick test but my body did not react to the pricks so they shot me with 27 needles to make sure. However, this was EXCEPT for the food allergies because the nurse told me that food allergies always show up on skin pricks.
Is it true that food allergies can only be tested with a skin prick and not with a shot? I really think she should have tested me with the shots of the food allergens too just to make sure, but of course did not start thinking about it until now.
I went in for a skin prick test and was tested on common allergens . Now I am curious about something.....?
Sorry, this first part isn't really in answer to your question, but I had to respond to the person with the hives. Hives are NOT caused by stress, there are many many studies out there proving this. In the case of chronic hives (lasting longer than 6 weeks), the majority are due to an autoantibody; in other words it is an autoimmune disorder. Stress can indeed make the hives worse, but then again as anyone who has ever experienced hives knows, all that itching is STRESSFUL. Thre's an excellent support group on the yahoo groups site (search for urticaria - you can't miss this group, they're the biggest one on the internet). Also check out the International Chronic Urticaria Society's website - www.chronichives.com
In answer to the original question, I believe the reason the shots are not done with food allergy testing is that there is a very big risk involved - anaphylaxis. In general, the margin of error with skin prick testing is usually on the false-positive side rather than the false-negative side, unless you were taking medications at the time of the test which would suppress any possible reactions. If you don't feel the skin prick tests were sufficient, and strongly suspect certain foods, you can ask for RAST testing or a food challenge test. The food challenge test can be very helpful if what you are suffering from is a food intolerance or sensitivity rather than a true allergy.. The symptoms can be the same, but sensitivities and intolerances do not show up with allergy testing.

They know what they are doing these days with these things. I am curious, what did you turn up allergic to? I am allergic to cats, trees, and dust. I guess I better go live in a bubble!
Reply:When in doubt get another test done. My hubby is severely allergic to all kinds of nuts. When they gave him the skin test on his back, his whole back swelled up. If you have asthma you should really get this test done, because when you have an allergic reaction it can completely close off your breathing. I'd get a second test. Better safe than dead.
Reply:When you go in for a recheck before you go make a list of all the questions you have and take it with you so you don't forget next time. And ask for the food allergen testing.
Reply:The pricks are very accurate rather than injecting you and taking a chance of severe allergic reaction.
Remember you were at the office for more than an hour (not waiting in the lobby but getting pricked again and again). What if you were to have a severe allergic reaction from an injection while driving home? Instead your skin is tested for allergens.
Reply:I just went for allergy testing and I too did not react to the pricks. They did not administer shots. They told me I needed further blood work. They think stress is the reason for my hives. I think it's funny that when they can't explain why something is happening they blame it on stress. Who doesn't have stress in their life????
Reply:No, I have some food allergies that do not show up on allergy tests. Technically, they are probably considered food intolerances, but they make me sicker than some allergies.
Reply:I haveta go. I'll answer it l8r
Reply:yes or no, trust her, she's a professional on that subject, you aren't so let her do the figuring
Reply:I just had this done, and they tested me for food allergies with the prick method. I showed nothing on the food allergens. I asked a ton of questions while I was there, so I think you are safe. They know what they are doing these days with these things. I am curious, what did you turn up allergic to? I am allergic to cats, trees, and dust. I guess I better go live in a bubble!

Do bloodtests for allergies work in dogs?
My shih tzu is absolutely miserable. Everyone keeps telling me that "it must be allergies" because of the sneezing, runny nose and watery eyes. Will the pricey tests at the vet's office be accurate?
I'm just not convinced that this is allergy. He has absolutely no skin itching, no hot spots, and no paw issues. He is extremely lethargic, has a runny nose, is extremely clingy to us, and can't seem to get comfortable no matter what.
Do bloodtests for allergies work in dogs?
The allergy tests for animals are a waste of time. Most animals have allergies due to poor diet. A change of diet to a rawdiet or to a really high quaility, grain free wet/canned or kibble will usually make allergies disappear. If you support the immune system properly, then your dog won't suffer from allergies.
I'm not sure if you have taken this dog to a vet, but those are also symptoms of an upper respiratory infection and could be severe... Please take your dog to the vet to make sure this is not an infection. Then if there is no cause other than allergies... switch your dogs food to a better type. It will save you money in the long run by limiting your vet visits.
Reply:Although shih tzus tend to have allergies this does not mean this is what it is. Your dog could have an upper respiratory infection. Your vet can help you determine if this is the case or not. If your dog is allergic you should try antihistimines first. The allergy testing is effective and is accurate but is usually used when allergies are severe and other management is not working. The vet will test for allergies and will have a serum made up especially for you dog that will be given by injection. The serum is also expensive usually running between %26amp;100-150. It varies how long it will last depending on how often your dog needs injections. Ultimately have your dog seen by the vet and he/she can help you determine the best course to go.
Reply:Lethargy is always cause for concern. The sneezing could be due to a foxtail or other object in the nose which can cause an infection. Make sure your vet rules that out.
As for the allergy tests, it depends. If the vet has ruled out injury or other illness, they are probably going to treat the problem with prednisone or antihistamines, so you might ask if you can try a trial of that without the test to see if it helps.
Reply:Yes the allergy test is very acurate. Just because the dog doesn't have itching skin, hot spots, etc does not by any means mean that he doesn't have an allergy. Allergies can manifest themselves in many different ways.

Benadryl can help, 2-3 times a day. Call your vet for proper dosage and to be sure it's safe for pups.
Reply:A spoonful of corn oil in with his food will help no end with the condition of his skin and his coat. Its not an instant remedy but will keep him in good condition long term and prevent further damage xxx
Reply:my dog had an allergy and i went to the pet store and bought a tee tree soothing spray.(you can also get the wipes) It stops them scratching and calms down the irritation. Worked wonders on my dog. Good luck!!
Reply:Many times it is the food that is giving the allergy My dog had the same we switched to a lamb and rice meal and within 1 week all was cleared. To many things in just simple dog foods.
Reply:I had the same problem with my dog. Carry on with the medicine and include Sardines in his diet (An old wives tale I know) but it worked. He stopped scratching within a day. Worth a try, and won`t do him any harm...Good Luck.
Reply:you can try baby bendryl, it may help. I would also put desitin on the areas that get inflammed. My puppy has very bad allergies and will get imflammed and bite until he has pustules on his belly and legs. Desitin helps relieve the inflammation and helps everything heal a lot faster. It has been working great on my pup. He also doesn't like the smell so he tends to scratch and bite at it less which helps a lot too. It was recommended by a vet.
Reply:piriton can help allergies in dogs use the guideline for children, use a food with no additives or colourings and try and keep on a wheat and luten free diet...spinach will stop the itching so you can add some to dogs food....also try using either filltered water or bottled as the water also can cause allergies
Reply:Wash your dog in the shampoo Celcum Blue. I have a pitbull one time witha skin condition, and he had no fur on his whole back because he chewed it all off from itching. Try this shampoo. It is a dandruff shampoo, and it should work. REALLY try it. I hope the best for you and your dog.

How does seafoods like lobster, crab and squid can cause food allergy (e.g. skin swelling and itchiness)?
what is an allergy and how it happens. an allergic reaction occur against a polypeptide or a protein inside the body in which the immune system consider this organ as foreign. hence when we eat something that cause food allergy, it is the product of digestion absorbed at the level of the samll intestine that cause this allergic reaction. so when your digestive enzymes breaks down the food into smaller particles, these small particls will cause this allergic reaction
How does seafoods like lobster, crab and squid can cause food allergy (e.g. skin swelling and itchiness)?
The iodine.
Reply:It is the salt water and the idodine that causes an allergic reaction.
Reply:The Iodine in it what I am allergic too.
I cannot have topical iodine either.
Reply:they contain iodine, very reactive substance, alot of people can't take it, ie contrast studies like cat scans use it, itchiness and swelling first step, then each reaction gets worse until breathing can be affected, drugs needed, epinephrine, ect.. watch out!
Reply:Normally you are born with it.
Reply:an allergy is your body being oversensitive to something. In reality you could become allergic to anything. Sometimes its from overexposure, sometimes its genetics, and sometimes it just happens.
Reply:i don't eat fish
Reply:well, u can b allergic 2 almost anything... i guess it just depends what specific thing it is
Reply:the protein is recognized by your body's immune system by binding to receptors and is mistaken for an antigenic or harmful compound. the body then mounts an immune response, many times an inflammatory one that is caused by the release of histamine from the granulocytes in the skin- the histamine causes redness, swelling and itching.
Reply:I believe it's the protein....it's a new large body bandage that the military uses with shellfish in it and they were saying that if u r allergic to shellfish don't worry because they take the protein that causes allergic reactions out.....
Reply:Any allergy is an allergen that causes one's immune system to behave abnormally.
Reply:That's something I'd like to know..
Reply:Yea it does because its shell fish,But i never knew that squid caused food allergy.Thank god i can eat all of it.
Reply:They don't cause allergy. Only people are allergic to them. Its inborn and some are genetic.
Reply:Its whatever is in it. Not everyone is allergic to these foods, but everyones different.
Reply:yes, and seafood allergies are some of the most deadliest allergies to have, keep benadryl on you at all times.
Reply:It may not be the iodine. You can be allergic to the protein, causing an inappropriate immune reaction (which is what allergy is.) I'm allergic to fish and CAN have topical iodine and iodine dye. The itchiness and other symptoms are from the release of histamine from your immune system.

I get boils on my skin whenever i use sanitary pads?
usually appear where the pad comes in contact with the skin.dont have latex allergy though.any help?
I get boils on my skin whenever i use sanitary pads?
Are they boils or little pimples from irritation? If your using scented pads then stop and if your using a pad with like the "dry weave" (always has them) then I would suggest discontinuing use and trying another brand. (I personal can not use any pad with the dry weave for the exact same problem) I personally use Kotex brand tampon and maxi and have had the best luck with it. In the evening try soaking in a tub of warm water and baking soda. This will help reduce the irritation. I hope this helps.
Reply:youre most likely allergic to the adhesive
Reply:Goto a natural food store and purchase the maxi pads there. There is probably something other than latex irritating you.
Reply:have you tried different brands?
are you usingthem stupid plastic coated always pads or the cottony soft ones?
i also suggest using tampons so you only have to use a super thin pad and stay alot dryer if that doesnt work consult your dr.
Reply:From my partner; use the unbleached or hypoallergenic ones avoid de-oderised ones etc. If this doesn't work see your doctocr.
Reply:I suggest you change the brand - the more natural fibres used the better for you. Look at the pack carefully and see the materials used. Your skin needs air. Don't wear tight clothing and use cotton underwear.
Reply:I always got in irritation from ALWAYS towels, so now i use Body Form i'm ok. Have you tried changing you brand of towel?

A skin condition or an allergy?
Every summer when it is really humid out, my mom and I will get itchy bumps (hives) on the tops of our hands and between our knuckles. It started when I was around 6. We have gone to a pediatrician, an allergy doctor, and a dermatologist and they weren't sure either. They just prescribed us hydrocortizone, but too much can cause blood poisoning and I get nervous when I use it. Do you know what this is and what I can do about it?
A skin condition or an allergy?
its caused probably through weather changes.
Reply:Since it happens in the summer, it could be any number of things that are in the air during the summer time- including heat and humidity itself, in some extremely rare cases.
Try to find out what you're allergic to, and either get it out of your environment or- as a last resort- move. You and your mom do both sound miserable.
Good luck!
Reply:If it happens in the summer, it's probably an allergic reaction to a certain plant or pollen. I used to get it all the time when I was younger and still do to a point. I got allergy testing done and found out that I'm allergic to 50% of the most common weeds in my area! I didn't like using hydrocortisone either. I found that if you mix two drops of lavender essential oil (assuming you're not allergic to it!) to ten parts witch hazel (you can buy it at walgreens) and apply it to the rash, it helps. Other than that, I just have to suffer through the summer with Benadryl! I hope you find something to help you!

My cat is licking/gnawing bald spots on himself... allergies?
My male cat is 1 yr old and has been on IAMs food since day 1. I haven't changed the type of litter he has, either. This summer we treated him with Zodiac flea meds and it eventually left a little bald spot on the back of his neck (this was in June). Since, we've treated him three times with Advantix with success.
Now, he is constantly licking himself all over and has gnawed a bald patch on his side where he has broken the skin. Could this be continued allergies to the Zodiac meds from months ago? Is this a common thing or should I be getting him to the vet asap?
My cat is licking/gnawing bald spots on himself... allergies?
Food allergies can turn up randomly, even when an animal has been on the same food the whole time. However, I think this is more likely to be a flea allergy. Advantix is good, but if your dog is allergic to fleas, you'll need more - i.e a housespray, to ensure that you've got rid of 100% of the fleas. You'll also need to treat year round - fleas still get around in the winter, they like to overwinter in your house, under your nice warm central heating!
First thing to do is get a complete regime of flea treatment. I do not think this has anything to do with the Zodiac, this stuff will be long since out of his system, but you're quite right to stay away from store-bought flea meds!

one of my cats all of the sudden I noticed some bald patches on top of his head and under his chin and on his back....vet couldn't see anything "textbook" going on with him gave us some drops to put on the affected areas and we did that and with in 24 hrs there was significant improvemnt and you can't tell that he had any bald patches with in a week. the next step if that didn't work they were going to do some skin scrapings to see if there was something going on. and then blood work, but being that he responded to those drops, we didn't need to proced to the skin scrapings or blood work.

If your cat is an outside cat, even with the flea meds, he will still be bit occasionally and just one bite will cause a reaction with his allergy to flea saliva. Check the site I left for things you can do for him.
And he had licked off all the fur on his lower belly, patches on the sides of him as well as the base of his tail. He is an inside cat and once we beat the flea problem, he is beautiful again.
Reply:Does he actually have fleas? If not I'd seriously consider stopping all flea meds and see if the condition improves.
If it doesn't, then it may be food or environmental allergies. Look at the label on the food you give him; if it shows wheat/corn/soy, you may have found the culprit. Dry food contains lots of fillers that cats may be allergic to.

is it the alcohol in the medicated acne care that's working...?
and its in japanese as i'm in japan so i won't be able to ask the pharmacist in case you were wondering...

Help! :[ I need to know about a skin problem?
If you have had an allergic reaction to an acne medication you shouldn't use anything new until the irritation is gone because just switching to a different one will just aggrivate the skin more. So, once the the reaction has cleared up then you should try the new one, but just on a small area of your skin to see how it reacts before you use it on your whole face.

my skin started to sort of "burn" and i had a little rashes for a while... then now, it still sort of burns.... and i thought it was an allergy... to some acne cream i'm using... and i stopped using it...
then i bought this new medicated acne wash, i have no idea how to read the japanese on it.. so i just use it.... and like... it burns for like awhile after using it.. then it stops for the rest of the day... do you think that i should continue using this medicated acne care or should i just leave my skin alone till the allergy is gone?
is it the alcohol in the medicated acne care that's working...?
and its in japanese as i'm in japan so i won't be able to ask the pharmacist in case you were wondering...
Btw... to all those who knows how to read japanese... can you help me see the product and like all the warning signs and stuff... .thanks :D its the one to the very left...

Itching Skin- Skin Condition or Plain Allergy?
About 3 years ago, I started noticing that my arms, back and chest would uncontrollably itch, and the coldest possible shower is the only thing that relieves.
The feeling is as though I am lightly being poked all over, it feels very localised, as if it were sharp. About 30 different places will have this feeling, and then it changes to different locations almost immediately.
I have been to the doctors about it, and they performed tests, and concluded that I had low allergy to cats, grass, and a high allergy to tuna.
This only seems to happen in the, particularly this time of the year. I just can't understand why they say its these factors considering I have lived with cats everyday of my life (I am 19), and I virtually have a whole can of Tuna on a sandwich for lunch and have no effects.
I can have no contact with these, but experience itching, generally immediately after I begin sweating.
I can't exercise because I immediately begin sweating and itching, and gaining weight fast.
Itching Skin- Skin Condition or Plain Allergy?
It sounds like you have dry skin. It can make you feel like you're being poked. I feel exactly like that if I don't moisturize. Since you're a guy you probably don't use a moisturizer or body lotion. In the winter the skin gets more dry. Get a body lotion (you can get unscented) and apply it after every shower. Even if your skin looks normal it may still need moisturizing to protect it from the air and wind.
What you said about the sweating makes me think your pores and sweat glands are irritated by something. You may want to change soaps and laundry detergent. Think about the chemicals you're exposed to that could cause itching. It could be a food, but I think it's more likely something you have skin contact with.

Can permanant tattoo cause allergies?
i've got very sensitive skin.. i always get allergy wit henna tattoos.. can permanant tattoo cause allergy aswell??
Can permanant tattoo cause allergies?
Yes, it is possible to be allergic to tattoo inks. Tattoo ink is not regulated by the FDA for human use (however it is regulated for farm use...go figure huh? lol). Some artist make their own inks while other's order ink from companies. Not all companies and artist make their inks the same, so while someone may be allergic to one brand/one artist's ink, they may not be allergic to another. Typically the pigment in red's is the one to cause an allergic reaction in people compared to other colors.

My sister and mom cant take red and pink. But i can take it and it dose not bother me. But you will not know if you can or not until you get one. she has got allergy all over her body and ears and legs which look like tiny wounds i have given her grisovin 250 mg still not reduced can u give some suggestion.
I have Great dane puppy she has some allergy on her skin, swolling all over body?
You need to take her to see your vet. Plus, if you're unsure of what's causing her skin allergy, you shouldn't be trying to treat it yourself as you might make it worse.
Reply:take puppy to vets
Reply:I would take her to the vet asap
Reply:how long has she had it? might be mange or mites, there are 2 types of mange, one is cureable the other isnt. take it to the vets, they will give her a bath of special stuff to sort it out.

What to do about allergy on face skin?
You need to be more specific. Maybe you are having a reaction to a new facial cleanser, lotion or cosmetics. In which case you should stop usuing the product. See a dermatologist.
Anyone have a pomeranian with allergies? What is he or she allergic to?
We just found out our pom has been having skin irritations because he has allergies -- to something. The problem is, we don't know what yet. Before I start the process of elimination, I thought I'd ask if anyone else's poms have allergies and what they ended up being allergic to. Thanks.

Process of elimination is the only real way of finding out. The blood test for alergies is a waste of money and is very very unreliable

When my son was 4, he tested on a skin prick test as having a slight egg allergy, which I knew he had because?
of a couple of reactions towards mayonaise and meringue. When he was 5 his skin test showed negative but she wanted to wait one more year before giving the okay on a food challenge test. This year, at 6, his skin test and blood test were neg. and we were scheduled for a food challenge test when I had given him a bite of an italian muffaleta without thinking. Well, he had a reaction, not severe, but little whelps around the mouth and itchy. I called and got the ingredients of the sandwich and mayo was the only thing on there I could identify with his allergy. (he is also allergic to tree nuts and shell fish). I canceled his food challenge test because I assumed this meant he still hadn't outgrown the egg allergy. This was 6 months ago. The office called me to confirm a follow up and I told them I didn't go through with the test so I wanted to cancel the follow up and explained to the nurse why. There was a message on my machine today from the nurse saying the doctor still wants
When my son was 4, he tested on a skin prick test as having a slight egg allergy, which I knew he had because?
The doctor may want to do the food challenge because both the blood and skin test are "indicators," and it is promising that his were both negative. Many allergists will recommend a food challenge in this situation because passing a challenge means that you don't have to restrict your child's diet unnecessarily, perhaps lessening nutritional concerns and certainly alleviating any anxiety about the risk of severe reactions.
My 4-year old son is allergic to peanuts, tree nuts and egg whites, but his numbers do not warrant food challenges at this time. The most common statistics say that 45% of kids with egg allergies outgrow it by 5. Obviously, that is not so in your son's case but I believe that it can happen at any time. I know someone who is 6 who just outgrew a severe egg allergy (he passed the food challenge) and spent the entire weekend eating scrambled eggs for every meal!
Reply:Firstly, a negative skin and blood test can occur even if allergy exists. False positives also occur. Testing for foods is not a reliable as testing for things such as pollen.
Secondly, you can develop an allergy at any time even if the foods were previously safe.
Thirdly, generally, if a child is going to outgrow an allergy it occurs when they hit puberty. Likewise, many seniors never had allergies during childhood or adulthood but developed them after the "change of life". Pregnancy is another major hormonal change that can result in allergies.
Do you really want to subject your child to a reaction - given what you just experienced? I am not sure if you are seeing a pediatric allergist or not but I would recommend finding one that is reputable.
Your son could just be reacting to the egg in the mayo or it could be another ingredient. Often secondary ingredients are not disclosed. For example, icing sugar - corn starch is used to keep it from clumping but that is not disclosed. Chocolate chips is another example where the actual ingredients of the chocolate chips are not stated just that there are chocolate chips.
Generally a food challenge test is used when the wrong food is suspected as the cause of symptoms. Or to prove that a food is NOT the cause of symptoms. They can also be used to discover the degree of sensitivity is another reason for performing food challenges.
A food challenge test would confirm the egg allergy but it would not tell you if there is also not a new allergy to something else.
If it were me I would keep an eye out for new allergies by keeping a diary of foods and their ingredients. As far as the egg, if there has been a concrete correlation of egg to reaction in the past, I would wait until after puberty to introduce it into your son's diet just to be safe. The less the body is exposed to allergens, the better the immune system and less likely to developing more allergies in a susceptible individual.

I have a cat with skin lesions...I think it may be an allergy???
My three year old cat was so itchy two years ago and developed skinlesions that would scab and bleed. I took her to two separate vets. They did food trials, bloodwork, fleas negative, ringworm negative, ear mites negative, feline leukemia negative. They tried antibiotics, flea meds, and gave steroids for relief. To make along story short, before consenting to a biopsy or expensive allergy testing, I went to a local natural petfood store and got some different food. She has been perfectly fine for a whole year. Now, two weeks ago , she has started with the skin problems again. Anybody else have similar experience?? I have made appt. with vet next week but wonder if anyone has advice.
I have a cat with skin lesions...I think it may be an allergy???
Pet food manufacturers are notorious for 'tweaking' their ingredients, and that can result in exactly what you describe. Check the label on the current food with one from an older bag to be sure. That's how we found out our cat was allergic to Rosemary Extract, it'd been raised up 3 lines in the Royal Canin Siamese and she suddenly broke out in little BB size bumps everywhere. A pair of cats on one of the lists I was on had the same issue and we saw it was the change made by the manufacturer that caused it.
Check for a diffrent food, if the current one isn't working anymore. It's sometimes all you can do with allergy prone cats. You don't want them on steroids for too long.
Reply:I don't know if this helps. We have a Pug dog that got something that sounded like that. He also got a really funky smell. They did the same with antibiotics and such. They said it was a fungis but, they did not know what caused it. I just kept on with the antibiotics, two runs and kept him really clean. It took months to go away but now he has been free of it for almost a year. good luck.
Reply:If she has food allergies, you may have to rotate out the main protein source every 6 months.. That's what I have to do with one of my dogs.. She's eats California Natural which has very limited ingredients and we rotate her between the lamb and chicken foods.. I would still take her to the vet though for a skin scraping and other tests just in case they do find something this time..

Can you recommend Dog food for a dog with allergies?
My dog has allergies, ie; dry flaky skin, ear problems yeast, lots of scratching at himself. What is a good brand and type of food I could give him that is not rediculously expensive. He is a 55 lb dog. Thank you
Can you recommend Dog food for a dog with allergies?
My Samoyed girl had terrible problems with yeast infections in her ears because of food allergies. Her coat was also terrible. I've been feeding her Canidae for over 7 years now, and haven't had any more ear infections. It's made from all human grade ingredients.
I highly recommend it. My girl is going on 17 years this year. I attribute much of her longevity to the quality of the Canidae food.
It's not incredibly cheap, but when you factor in what you're paying in vet bills for the ear infections, it's much cheaper in the long run. Another advantage to higher quality foods is the dog doesn't need to eat as much because it's higher in nutritional value and is more filling for the dog. Bags last longer.
Reply:My dog has allergies too, and we have to give him special food, but talk to your vet. They will be very clear on what your dog needs, what they recommend and prices.
Reply:Try a lamb and rice formula.
Reply:Give him a bath with a good conditioner that always helps my dog. Leave it on for about 5 minutes before rinsing.
Use advantage or front line to keep the fleas away.
Dog food - lamb %26amp; rice or chicken and rice premium dog food.
Reply:I have a dog with severe allergies and I have found Canidae to be excellent. It has nothing allergenic in it and isn't real expensive.
Reply:my dog also has allergies. i give my dog Science Diet d/d. its dogs just for allergies. it's not too expensive. you can also try Purina foods that have Lamb and rice in it. this will help with the skin. to help the flakyness, get your dog a good oatmeal shampoo for dogs. i have some for my dog and now he doesnt have any flakes on his skin. i got this shampoo at the vets office where i work. its called: Relief Shampoo. this same brand also has a Bath Oil. i usually spray it on him between bathes to make him smell REALLY good and to also help the flakes.
Reply:You could try Nature's Recipe Venison and Rice blend or Wellness Duck and Sweet Potato. Otherwise, you might consider feeding your dog either a raw diet:
http://www.rawdogranch.com
The above site is one I used when I fed my three dogs a raw diet and they did great on it.
OR consider a home cooked diet- google Dr. Pitcairn for balanced canine meals.
With the two latter, you know the quality and complete content of what is in the dog food. A dog can be allergic to dog food with chicken or with lamb but when fed these meats from fresh human grade, they do fine.
If considering a home cooked diet, some supplements to consider are Norwegian Cod Liver Oil and Brewer's Yeast with yogurt for snacks a few times a week.
If you want oils formulated for dogs which are designed for skin and coat health, you could get 3V Caps Skin Formulation for dogs.
You might want to check with your Vet for the ear problems because that can get more serious if not adequately treated.
Reply:in order to rule out food allergies, you need to feed a quality hypoallergenic diet such as venison, duck, rabbit, bison, or kangaroo. proteins that the dog has not had before. no chicken, beef, fish, lamb, or pork. feed the diet for at least 8 weeks. if the dogs symptoms improve or vanish completely then it is a food allergy.
good foods to feed that are hypoallergenic include: wellness venison or duck, innova evo canned venison, duck, or rabbit, natural balance duck or vegetarian.
Reply:My dogs have allergies and they get Science Diet F%26amp;P (fish %26amp; potato). That is a prescription pet food and so it is more expensive. Another alternative is to feed the dog actual fish and potatos but I think you'll find that this is just as expensive.
If you find something better, let me know because I could stand to save some money.
Reply:Natural Balance, Solid Gold, Nature's Recipe, Natural Choice.
Reply:I feed my dog Bravo raw food.
Reply:Sometimes a meat and rice recipe will work, but some of the problems that you're having will respond better to a high-quality grain-free diet. All kibble, which is cheaper than canned or raw, must have grain, potato, or tapioca in it to hold it together. Potato would be cheaper than tapioca, and potato is better than grain.
HIgh-quality means that most of the ingredients are of HUMAN-GRADE quality. None of the recall products were human-grade. If it's not good enough for me, it's not good enough for my dogs.
The first ingredient should be a meat. It shouldn't be a meat by-product or a meal. Neither of these are human grade, nor can they be measured for there nutritional content. That's because the company cooks down a bunch of different animal parts that's different each time.
Don't get anything with wheat, corn, soy (or soybean oil), BHA, BHT, ethoxoquin, artificial flavors and colors, salt, sugars (including sucrose and fructose).
A lot of these poor-quality ingredients are cheap fillers, flavor enhancers, and preservatives. They offer a low source of nutrition, and weaken the immune system. That's what causes allergies. The only reason they're in the recipe is because they serve a purpose for the company, not to keep your dog healthy.
I suggest you read dog food labels carefully. Look at foods like Evo (made by Innova), Timberwolf Wild %26amp; Natural or Ocean Blue, Barking At The Moon (made by Solid Gold). They're more expensive, but they would seriously cut down on the allergies, which would mean less trips to the vet. I also suggest adding a cold-water fish oil, like salmon, krill, anchovy or sardine. This will help a lot with the ear problem and the yeast. You could also add probiotics and dygestive enzymes.
One product that has salmon oil, pre- and probiotcs, and digestive enzymes is Positive Health by Great Life. They also make an excellent food, but is expensive. Their website is http://www.greatlife4pets.com
An informative article about pet food is:

Good luck
Reply:My dogs are fed raw so this is not an issue for us, but my kids momma has a cocker spaniel that had bad skin allergies and she feeds him Beniful. Not sure of the nutrition value or anything but it worked wonders on him when she switched him from Purina to Beniful.
Reply:Well I have this big killer Pit Bull that is allergic to meat products. She is on Eukanuba F/P (fish and potato). It costs a small fortune, $68.00 for a thirty lb bag. Now that I am retired I am looking for something cheaper. Which is going to prompt a question.

Allergy reaction or skin disorder?
i have this problem that's been plaguing me for years. Been to many doctors but, each time they give different reasons and medications that don't really work. My problem goes like this:
1st stage: my lips will swell and it'll sting very badly.
2nd stage: the swelling would reduce
3rd stage: after swelling, lips will be very very dry and chapped
4th stage: chapped lips will peel and bleed quite badly
This is sometimes accompanied by rashes on my right hand's fingers.
I'm wondering if others do suffer the same as me (coz, almost all that i know don't). Several diagnoses include ezcema, lack of vitamins and allergy reaction. Does anyone know the real answer?
Allergy reaction or skin disorder?
Boy, if this doesn't hit home. I have the same problem and it has been diagnosed as a skin allergy. I find that if I just drink water and not carbonated beverages it helps. Tomatoes really make my lips swell or tomato sauces. I find that Carmex helps to heal them, I buy it at the local CVS pharmacy here. Take a good multi vitamin in the morning, that helps me and keep hydrocortizone 1% cream on the shelf for your hands. Dish detergent irritates the rash so I use gloves when I do dishes or any household cleaning. Also I keep Benedryl on had, it is over the counter and an allergy medication that at one time was only prescription. Good Luck.
Reply:its vitamin deficiency...
Reply:Have you been putting those lips and fingers somewhere your god may disapprove of?
Reply:sounds like allergy to me... try to remember what kind of foods you had at the breakout, process of eliminiation. Doesn't hurt to do a full allergy test just to rule it out.

Reply:Could be a nutrition deficiency or an allergy, but i advise you get to a dermatologist and take a blood test.
Reply:I have had similar reactions when I have had a fever. Check your temp the next time stage 1 starts.
Also my son went through swollen lips last year. They where red around the whole lip. Took him to an allergist and he said to keep away from cinninmon, mint (toothpast) and chap stick
Reply:my son had the same problem nuts done his in so he mustnt eat nuts or any food cakes etc that have nuts or nut oils in them maybe you are allergic to something else so it would b trial and error
Reply:Hi,
Your symptoms are pretty to similar to that of my sister's.
We are not quite sure what it is as well... but she did get better after she went through a detox programme.
I specialize in helping people solve their problems (overweight, underweight, skin allergies, ezcema, lack of balance in body) through detox programmes and encouraged her to go through one because she was complaining about her lips..
After she did the detox, she no longer has to religiously apply creams to her lips and I no longer see her lips peeling and bleeding.

Any ideas about strange dime sized spots on my skin since I began allergy shots.?
I moved to the Ohio valley about eight months ago. I immediately began suffering severe allergies and had to start shots and a slew of medications. Perhaps it is unrelated, but I started getting flat, shiny and perfectly round spots near the injection sites. They are only slightly raised and look like bruises. At first I was terrified that I had ringworm, but it never developed the distinctive ring. The allergist thinks it may be excema, but it usually does not itch. Today I saw one on my thigh, near my knee. Eventually the others faded. I actually have been working so much that I didn't have time to schedule with a dermatologist. Now, I am out of work for the summer, so I plan to, but I wonder if anyone has any ideas in the meantime. Thanks.

sounds like excema. it looks really similar to ringworm. its just dry flaky skin. with all of your allergies and your new shots and you moving to another place with a different climate its totally possible that your skin is irritated.

Yorkie with skin problems. Could this be a food allergy?
I am a groomer and have a client with a yorkie that even after I bathed him he smelled bad. After awhile he was diagnosed this yeast and was given Malaseb. Several weeks later he came in with a keratinized area on the back of his neck that was very red. The owners took him to the vet and they gave him another medicated shampoo, powder and a pill (don't know what exactly). I bathed him last week and his skin is just red as a beet. A groomer friend of mine says she think it's a food allergy. She recommended some kind of yorkie food,..." ? Gold" Any suggestions about this problem.
Yorkie with skin problems. Could this be a food allergy?
He may still have a fungal infection. Sounds like the owners need to have his skin cultured again for a followup to see if any yeast/bacteria are present in large numbers. He may have a secondary bacterial infection. If the yeast were not controlled with the shampoo, he could be given a systemic fungal control drug. Everyone always assumes it's food allergies, and it may be, but i would want to see the results of a culture....there are dog allergy specialists out there if an allergy is suspected. Their vet will probably have to refer them if he suspects it is an allergy.
Reply:yes most defintely could be a food allergy.we have been through many foods untill we found one now the dog is beautiful full coat and no smell,or reddness or itchyness. If the coat has a red tint to legs underbelly, that could be a yeast infection, but the change of food fixed the problem.
Reply:I have seen and heard about this. It could be a food allergy or an unknown skin condition. I read about it because my dog had pretty much the same thing and she is a Yorkie too.. Hers just slowly went away. I read about others and it was a skin condition that took them forever to figure out.
Reply:Have you test the shampoo on a small area of his skin.

Reply:My Yorkie had a similar problem and after many, many trips to the Vet we discovered she was allergic to fleas. There is something in their saliva that causes an allergic reaction when they bite her. We keep her on flea control meds year round and as long as the fleas are gone, Maggie has no more skin problems. But, if it is a food allergy, it seems like the only way to solve the problem is to find out exactly what (in the food) the dog is allergic to. Then find a dog food without that ingredient.

What are the symtoms of allergy caused by chemical contact to skin?
i have red rash on my chest, back, neck n face skin.i used sulfur on my skin lastnight and i found out the rash this morning.does the sulfur cause the allergy to me?or is it related to something else?maybe bitten by mosquitoes?i also have a headache.is it also related to the allergy if i really have one?
What are the symtoms of allergy caused by chemical contact to skin?
It sure looks like you've got a sulfur-allergy.A sulfur allergy starts with a bright red rash that burns and itches, arround the eyes, forhead, arms and chest...you can also get migraine-like headaches, with preasure on one or both ears...I suggest you visit your doc.!
Reply:It sounds like an allergic reaction. Sulpher can also be poisonous if used wrong.
Reply:The rash is the first sign, you may get sick also..
Reply:Yes it is more than likely that it is a allergic reaction. The headache is from the allergic reaction.
Reply:Itching, burning, hives, open sores, blisters, redness, peeling of skin, swelling, numbness are all symptoms of chemical allergic reactions. The sulfur most likely is causing the reaction but the only way to be sure is to go to a physician and take a general allergy test. Mosquitoes leave bumps, not rashes. And as far as the headache goes, that is usually not a sign of allergys to chemicals. Headache is usually related to congestion due to airborne related allergens.
Reply:IF you get a rash because of contact at particular place it can be because of 'contact dermatitis' this is one kind of reaction of body to the antigen. And if the allergy is systamic- pertaining to whole body its type 3 IMMUNOLOGICAL reaction which can be fatal like pencilin allergy. This is called ANAPHYLACCIX IT can happen because of food, preservatives in food, certain sea foods, chocolates(TRYPTOPHAN) peanuts, milk,Drugs, etc

you cant, you could try laser hair removal.

Do you have lots of Hair on your face, which are bit thick and coarse hair,If so then only you need to wax the face. You can go to a good beauty parlour. Ask her first to do a patch test on your face with a good bleach cream. If you do not get any irritation or reaction on your face after 24 hours. You can ask her to bleach your face using a good bleach cream available in the market-Egg Jolen,Fem etc.She will know which is the lattest and a better product for your skin.Take some guidelines from her also.

Please help me figure out what is causing my itchy skin?
about 2 weeks ago, i undertook a major cleaning of my house. Ever since then, every day I am finding anywhere from 2 to 6 new spots of itchy skin. I do have allergies to dust and everything associated with it. I have tried everything I can think of from washing all of my linens/slip covers for the furniture to actually taking the shop vac to my furniture (including my bed). I can't stop scratching!! It's driving me crazy... I appear to be the only one getting these, my fiance doesn't have anything on him. I've been doing some research and these bites resemble bed bugs but I don't know where they would have come from. I shower on a regular basis... I don't know what else to do... I haven't changed my diet or anything. Could I have developed an allergy to my laundry detergent even though it's the same one I have always used? What else could it be?? I haven't been able to get to my dr's b/c his schedule is basically the same as my work schedule.... HELP PLEASE!
Please help me figure out what is causing my itchy skin?
the unsettled dust seems to have sparked your oversensitive skin to react, making your other more minor allergies to your bedsheets and cleaning products more conspicuous and extreme.
you haven't got mites, especilly seeing as you cleaned your sheets and your partner hasn't got any bites. you need to buy eqyptian cotton sheets, change your cleaning cosmetics to hypoallergenic and acohol and perfum free, and if this doesn't work, change your mattress.
in the meantime try an antihistamine product i.e. benadryl, or another brand containing Ethanolamines. this will reduce your reactions, although it will cause drowsiness even if it claims not to on the packaging
try using a spray with aloe vera extracts to speed up skin healing for the bites i.e. http://www.aloeverasupplier.co.uk/produc...
Reply:any skin conditions around the mouth or chin are usually hormonal. see gp
Reply:Sounds like you are allergic to one of the cleansers you used, but it could be continuing because it's taking your liver a while to purge the toxin. Take a benedryl for the itching, if you can, that should also help start the skin healing. Also, you might pick up echinacea w/goldenseal (a natural antibiotic) at walmart to help your liver along in cleansing your system if you think you need the extra help.

Please help me figure out why my skin is so itchy?
1. You might have been exposed to dustmites when you cleaned your house. These dustmites continue to thrive or float in the air even if we have already wiped clean our house. You can try to use de-humidifiers or other sprays that have allergen trappers.
2. It could be your detergent. Most allergies are developed over time not inborn. Since you have always used that laundry detergent, it is highly possible that you have developed an allergic reaction to it. Try to change your detergent. And avoid fragrant soaps or detergents as these are common allergens. Also, try to stop your use of fabric softener (if you use one) and see if the itching stops.
3. It can also be because of your bath soap. Try using hypoallergenic or baby bath soaps.
4. Or it can also be your body lotion. Try switching to hypoallergenic or unscented lotions.
5. Check out your diet too. What have you been eating lately? Try to list down what you eat everyday and the allergic reactions that you have (mild or worse). Most common food allergens are chicken, chocolate, nuts and seafoods.

Is it possible to be allergic to allergy tests but not the actual substance? (i.e. skin pricks)?
Because I get a lot of skin rashes I went for food allergy tests years ago and had about 85 skin pricks done. Turned out that I was allergic to 47 of the 85 things at levels 2-4 (The worst were, Level 3: potato, corn, Aspartame, melon, coconut, pea, hazelnut. Level 4: peanut, soy, mustard, string bean, lentil.) The allergist was surprised that I'd never had serious reactions to anything and even suggested an epipen.
It's been like 15 years and I've still not had a serious reaction, but I still get the rashes too.
Someone told me that it's possible to be allergic to the surface of your own skin so the breaking of the skin for the test could have had more to do with the positive result than the actual allergens that they were testing for.
Has anyone else heard of this?
Is it possible to be allergic to allergy tests but not the actual substance? (i.e. skin pricks)?
There is a certain amount of irritation that comes from the actual test. However, the grading scale for the reactions and the amount of time given between having the test placed and the test read helps to account for this.
It's possible that your body has been able to manage the allergy without going to the extreme of having a more serious reaction. It isn't quite understood why some people are less or more allergic. There are people who have +4 reactions to peanuts and never have an issue, some even consume them from time to time. So the research continues to find out why our bodies react the way they do.
I hope this helps!
Reply:I've had plenty of allergy tests like yours and some can be minor allergies. I am technically allergic to chocolate and corn, but have no problems with either. If you are getting skin rashes then you need to find out which allergy it is. You can form new allergies at any time. Example - I always drank tea, but in college had a serious reaction and now cannot drink tea at all!
Reply:I develop allergic rashes to my own sweat - anything is possible.
Reply:I've heard of so many reactions showing up on the skin scratch test that they can't really tell which are true allergies/sensitivities.But you may have something called leaky gut, where your intestines when processing foods can leak food proteins out of the gut and it get's absorbed into the blood/lymph. Since these proteins should not be there the body has an allergic reaction, and a rash may occur when the body is overloaded with all these proteins flooding out of the guts. They say if you have many allergies this is a possibility. Avoiding the trouble foods will help but ultimately healing the gut is the best way to prevent more allergies from developing (more types of food proteins from leaking out) There are some ways to help the body heal the gut, just google it. Seeing a naturopathic doctor may help as they can give you specific vitamins etc. that will heal the gut. Good Luck

My skin is itchy and i have small bumps on my arms and chest from the sunbathing. Is this an allergy?
Ive grown up at the beach.. but now in my early 20's i've been trying to stay out of the sun and tanning beds, and I ALWAYS wear SPF 15 on my face and neck. But just recently this summer , everytime i'm in the sun, the next day all of my skin is itchy and i have these small random 'bumps' that extremely itchy. Am i developing an allergy? It is not dry skin, I have been sure to ultra moisturize. Any suggestions?

You are getting heat rashes. These happen when you are exposed to heat allot. Use anti itch cream and that should help the itching
Reply:i got sumthin like that a few times and i was told its sun poison.. u dont have it very long.. and i use anti itch cream and aloe stuff for it.

My beagle mix seems to have itchy dry skin... Advice?
I have a beagle mix I believe the other half is collie, based on his coat, neck and facial structure.
He has always been very itchy. We had to get him a hydrocortosone shot in january when he was chewing the skin off his back legs. I got hydrocortoson spray, but he hates for me to spray it on him and it doesn't last long. I'm not sure if it is his skin or an allergy. I dont believe it is fleas, because i never see fleas on him or in the bathtub when I give him baths.
He seems to extra itchy after a bath which makes me believe it is dry skin. I am using an oatmeal shampoo that doesnt seem to work. He itches all day. He makes his skin red with all the scratching. Anyone have any advice that has been thru this? I have never had a dog with a problem like this.
I was told to give him benadryl to see if it is an allergy, but i would have no idea how much to give him!
My beagle mix seems to have itchy dry skin... Advice?
Please call your vet in regards to how much benadryl you can give your dog. Every dog varies in how much they can tolerate and there are only certain types of benadryl that can be safely used in dogs.
As for the itchy skin I would make another appointment with your vet. It sounds like, to me, that he needs another cortisone treatment and it might help him to go on an allergy food like Eukanuba Response FP or Hills z/d.
Also make sure that your dog is on a good quality flea treatment as even one flea bite can cause a massive itchy response in dogs with flea allergy dermatitis.
Reply:I have a beagle and he had horrible dandruff. We finally took him to the vet and discovered that he had a skin infection. We were very surprised because we also thought it was in allergic reaction to something. Our vet prescribed an antibiotic that cleared his infection. Now, he is dandruff free and has been for the last year!
Reply:Dogs can take up to 6 benedryl.
It could be about anything.
Try mixing up a raw egg in his regular food and feed it to him daily. This helps create healthy skin cells and will give him a shiny coat.
Give him a bath in head n shoulders. It sounds weird but I bathe my German Shepard in it and he is no longer itchy. He has psoriasis.
Reply:Your first step should be a consultation with your veterinarian, as should be the case with ANY medical problems with ANY animal. These are the people who go through years of schooling to be able to answer such questions.
You should also take a close look at the dog's food. Are you feeding a premium brand of food, one that has meat as the first ingredients listed on the contents? Or are you feeding a supermarket brand, with corn, wheat, etc., as the first several ingredients? Often, the supermarket brands can cause problems in dogs.
Finally, too many baths can be a problem in many dogs. Dogs who don't shed their coat, like Poodles, DO need regular bathing. Dogs who shed their hair on a routine basis (like Beagles) only need a couple of baths a year, if that.
Don't give medications to your dog unless or until you know the real reason for the problem. You might only be adding to the itching. Talk with your vet.
Reply:Then he has got an allergy. It may be to his food and it may be to some cleaning product or other substance that you have in your house. If you Google "benadryl dog allergy" you should get a dosage back, but try to think about solving the problem rather than masking the symptoms.

My dog has an eye sores from allergies and needs to stop scratching-- alternative to e-collar?
My dog has allergies and the skin around his eyes is tender and swollen. He keeps scratching and rubbing at his eyes and they are now raw. The vet recommended an e-collar, but I am hoping there is an alternative.
I need something that would cover his eyes so that he won't scratch, but will still allow him to eat and play-- he's only a year old. Any suggestions would be helpful.

So sorry to hear he is so miserable. I would take the vet's suggestion and use the e-collar. He probably won't have to use it very long (just till the eye problem is better) maybe a week or two but you will feel better not having to see him scratching his eyes all the time.
Good luck

Mine has allergies and she was getting tender on her lip, the vet gave her a cortisone shot to stop her from scratching right away and and I have her on benadryl, one tablet twice a day. Also you can have blood work done and this will tell you what she is allergic to that's what I did once I knew it was easier to control. Seriously get another vet.

Reply:your vet recomended an e-collar, and for good reason. it may seem cruel to you,but would you prefer to be like my neighbor who had a similar problem with scratching around his dogs eyes? the dog went blind in one eye and the other surgically removed due to massive infection. once the irritation clears up the vet can give you creams, pills ets to help with the allergies. Please be kind to your dog and use the collar.

Reply:Ideally you should find the source of his allergies and if possible eliminate the offender(s) from his environment. Dogs can be allergic to many things, cleaners, your carpet, grass, pollen, ingredients in their food etc. You may want your vet to allergy testing to determine what he is allergic to.
Ask your vet for some medication that will help relieve his itchiness. He sounds pretty miserable.
You can also put a 100% cotton t-shirt on him. This sometimes helps relieve itching. I can't really say how it works, I don't know. This was a tip I heard several years ago, and when I had dog who was constantly chewing his feet due to allergies I tried it. He quit chewing feet. :)
Good luck.
Reply:I would hope your vet gave you eye drops. Clean the area witha warm damp paper towel/wash cloth and apply eye drops if you have them. Do research and change his food, you can read about what you need to look for (the first two ingredients need to be different than what you are feeding him now.) It takes about 6 weeks to see results. For now, take 3 tube socks, and cover his legs, use the 3rd sock to secure softely around his chest, so the socks don't fall off. Keep an eye on him. I hope you do have eye drops, because that will help alot! Hope I helped. Good luck!
