What is the best medicine for the skin allergy and falling hair of my dog?
proper food recommended from the vet and a general antihistimine
Reply:You need to go the the vet, or at least call him, and see what he says you should do.
Reply:sounds like mange
Reply:What kind of dog and how big? I have had vets tell me to use Benadryl for allergies so this is why I ask. If the dog is a small one you may want to use childrens benadryl. You will want to bathe your dog in warm water with a cup of baking soda added. I would do this in a bath tub. The baking soda will soothe the itch. And will help the skin heal faster. As for the falling hair, my grandpa told me of a homemade salve you can mix up with kitchen products. Just mix shortening with flour and add this to the bald spots. This will moisten the skin and help the hair grow back. Works great on ferrets too.
Reply:My cat had very sensitive skin and would lose hair and get scabs, etc. He would have to get coritzone shots but I'm not sure what that exactly did for him.

You can start by going to a pet supermarket and getting a good shampoo for his skin type and maybe some kind of skin conditioner and see how that works. He may need to see a vet.
Reply:First , change the dogs diet NO FISH- get it on a lamb%26amp; rice diet- Skin allergy can be cured in many ways, you can buy an antibiotic ointment( your vet will suggest that) or do a cure that has helped many dogs! Its an old one used for ages and I was lucky to be given it by someone's grandmother!

Yes it will be messy but then who cares if it cures right?

2 tablespoons of olive oil, mixed with 2 tablespoons of the root spice called turmeric. make a paste and smear it on the allergy

If the dog licks it its Ok but try to keep it off and keep the pooch away from your carpets and areas as the yellow color can be real problem to remove. You can also mix 1/4 teaspoon of this yellow spice with its milk or food.

Works like a miracle

This spice can be bought at most Asian ,East indian shops. Use an anti-bacterial shampoo
Reply:My friends dog had really bad skin allergies. The Vet told her to give it a strick diet of vegetables , cooked red meat %26amp; rice.

Now she's fine. And she can eat normal dog food .
Reply:they make oatmeal bath stuff for dogs, get some and then check into getting some dog food that is for sensitive skin...he (or she) will feel alot better..
Reply:I sounds more like an allergy to its dog food. I have a page on my website about food allergies. Check it out, it might help.

Reply:First have her seen by the vet to make sure it is allergies. Thyroid problems and other medical conditions can make a dog lose hair.

Once its been determined that is in fact allergies you can either have allergy testing done to determine what she is allergic to, and remove the offender. Or you can work on process of elimination.

Start with her food. Poor quality foods containing corn and wheat can cause allergies. So switch to a higher quality food without these ingredients. Remember its going to take about 6-8 weeks to see results from a food change.

She can be allergic to other things as well, pollen, grass, cleaners, your carpet etc. The best way to treat allergies is to get rid of the offenders. If that is not possible talk to your vet about medication for times when the offenders can't be avoided.
