What can I use on my dogs skin for dryness and itching?

I have a chinese shar pei and she has a skin allergy. She itches and chews herself all the time. Sometimes she itches so bad she loses her hair and she bleeds.What can I get or use on her to help with moisture on her skin so she want itch so much and does anyone have a shar pei that could give me some advice.?

You need to treat the allergy from the inside, starting with changing her diet. She is miserable, from what you describe. Likely, wheat and corn are problematic. I would purchase a food from the vet, it is called Eukanuba Response Fish/Potatoe. It is a dry food. Your dog should begin to feel better rather quickly. Also, the vet may want to check the hot spots, and make sure she isn't infested with bugs. Being allergic to fleas will literally drive the dog to destroy it's own body, the itching is intense for them. It's important to get the problem controlled, visit your vet soon.

Reply:Your dog may have allergies to some ingredients in dog food. Check what you are feeding your pet (read the labels) and go for a premium dog food. I would recommend wellness, solid gold, enova, or Blue buffalo (blue buffalo being only at petsmarts) the first three foods are at Petco and independent dog food retailers. Once you get your dog on a good food, it will take at least a month for the food to really show in the pet.





Also, you can try oatmeal soap baths which sooth the itchy skin.





Than, you can add some olive oil on the pets food and egg yellows. (I'm assuming the pet isn't overweight)





If all of the above doesn't work, I suggest you get your furry pal checked for allergies.
