My middle daughter is allergic to cat and dog dander. It is a skin allergy, not a respiratory thing. When we found out, we had to give our rat terrier away. My oldest daughter is an animal lover and I was wondering if others with allergies were affected by rabbits or guinea pigs and such.
Can someone help? Thanks.
Do you have pet allergies?
About the only thing I can think of that she might not be allergic to is a syphyx (cat) or a Chihuahua (dog) or a Mexican Hairless (dog) ... with the dander, technically they are not allergic to the fur but the saliva left on the fur when it dries and flakes off... so a hairless animal (or close to it) would be my only suggestion... I am allergic to cat and dog dander, but I was *MORE* allergic to rabbits, guinea pigs, birds, ferrets (and anything else close to the rodent catagory) I dont know how severe the allergy is, myself as a child... i was allergic to so much other stuff anyway, my parents let me have a cat... it wasnt like it made much difference for me... I was on 4 different meds anyway, whether i had a cat or not...
Reply:Yes. I'm allergic to SNAKES as pets, PIRANHUAS as pets and SPIDERS as pets....other than that - I'm good to go!! On a more serious note: my niece has allergies to cats and we're about to move in with her. She takes medicenes and I will keep her OUT of the basement where the kitty will be living! I've not seen or heard anyone having dander allergies toward guinea, rabbit OR hamster, but maybe it's because they stay in the cage or they don't have the same substance of dander as what is in cats and dogs. Ask your vet. I'm sorry you had to give away your puppy! That was painful!
Reply:Anyone who is allergic to cats will definitely be allergic to rabbits. I suggest a small breed puppy such as a Havanese. I also have allergies but when I got one of these hypo-allergenic pups I have no trouble snuggling right up to him!!They are great with kids, very smart-easy to train,%26amp;don't need a whole lot of time devoted to exercise
I did alot of research before purchasing my Havanese, and he was so well worth it!!
Check them out!

Reply:when I was in my mid twenties I had a cat and it was that cat that I became allergic to,my parents thought I had penumonia and someone suggested that I see an allergist,so I made an appoitment with one and for thirty five years I took allergy shots every week .of course I got rid of the cat but then i developed alergies to tree pollen.I have lots of allergies. about nine tears ago the allergist gave me the okay to stop taking the allergy shots and now I very seldom go crazy with the allergies.I am stilll highly allergic to cats, they give me asthma so bad that I use an inhaler.as for other animal allergies ,I am also allergic to rabbits and some breeds of dogs.
