Has your baby had the allergy skin test?

my baby's pediatrician told me that my baby can have an allergy skin test, it would be a scratch in the skin. does it hurt more than shots? does it keep hurting after?


my son might have lactose and rice allergies so i am concerned.

Has your baby had the allergy skin test?
My son had a blood test to determine that he had milk and egg allergies and 6 months later he had the skin test done to see if he was still allergic. He was about 18 months old for that test and it didn't even bother him. He just ran around the room until the time was up to read the results. It doesn't hurt, it's just a tiny pinch...less than a shot. They might get itchy but you can't let them scratch at it. Other than that, it's harmless.
Reply:it depends onhow old your baby is. Most allergists won't do the tests until your child is at least 4yrs of age because their immune system isn't completely developed. it doesn't hurt them it's very itchy because they give the kids a drop of histimine in one of the scratches. It does not hurt after only the scratch with the histimine will continue to itch.
Reply:It really seems to be just scratches. My baby did cry pretty hard, but I think he was just upset at being held still. They marked his back with a marker first and he cried hard even during that, so it was hard to tell if he was crying out of pain or if he was scared. I think he was more scared than in pain. Good luck, you need to do it to get your baby healthy. All they tested mine for was dust and mold and they both came back positive :(
Reply:I had this done myself as a child. It was very painful, I have to say. But, I don't think you should let that deter you from going ahead with the test. It's the most accurate way of finding out what his exact allergies are. It will save you a lot of heartache in the long run if you just get the test done.
