My dog constantly scratches at his skin. I'm suspecting allergies. what do I do to help him?

I had a dog with allergies. The best thing you can do is get to the Vet, don't wait! It will only get worse if you do and then you may be facing an even bigger problem.

Take him to the vet to really get him checked out - until then, you could apply corn starch to the itchy areas to relieve his irritation. This is what we did to our beagle because he suffered from skin allergies.
Reply:First of all THINK OF FLEAS, ticks, lice, larvae (equinoccocus canis etc9 think first on the MOST frequent causes of pruritus in a dog, cat, and other vertebrate hairy pet,,,,

Allergies???

they are mostly manifested by respiratory syjptoms in a canine animal....before taking your pet to the vet, i humbly suggest you bathe him with antiflea soap, and apply some drops of permethrine in the back of the neck,,,,,

Please, se your vet....a bath and dissinfection will not harm your pet,,,and save him some scratches...
Reply:your dog has dry skin ,get something from your Vet or ask at the pet store if they have a special treatment for his coat, we use to give our dog a raw egg to eat once a week ,it suppose to be good for their coat .
Reply:Maybe he has fleas, or he need a little oil in his diet, a little safflower oil on his food , daily, might help.
Reply:We have a Jack Russell Terrier with allergies too. We give her benadryl (check with your vet on dosage though!) if she's having a lot of trouble, but we also spray her itchy spots with some sort of cortisone itch spray (bought at the grocery store). But definitely give the vet a call, they can give you a whole list of different medications to try that you can buy over the counter. If you take the dog in, they're going to suggest you change the diet or start feeding rice and then slowly add things...it's a lot of effort (because trying to find the culprit can be nearly impossible), but works if you're willing to put in the effort. Oh, they also have bags of hypoalergenic food that you can buy, but they're spendy.
