i have got a silky who has got a very bad skin allergy and i feel so sorry for her as she is constantly itching herself. i want to help her but i don't know how.
i took her to the vet and he gave us some cream to apply but it doesn't seem to work. i also have changed her food to anti allergy dry and wet food, however she is still scratching herself almost all the time. it's gotten so bad that she actually has scratched and bitten herself red raw! the vet gave me a e collar to prevent her from scratching herself even more but i feel sorry for her as it's the itching that needs to stop.
she is a rescue so i don't know much about her past and i have recently found out she is pregnant.
so is there anything herbal that helps her with her skin allergy but does not affect the puppies?
and should i change her food or anything like that? please help!
thank you!
My silky's skin allergy?
This is pretty much what you get when you buy a puppymill dog from a Pet store. Especially a pregnant one.
If you're anywhere near a Veterinary School; Cornell, Ohio State, Michigan State, take her. Be prepared to spend a lot of money. Her pups probably have the same problems:

Reply:I have been there and I know how desparate you can feel. I have a 12 year old ShiTzu who went through the same thing. My vet was even giving him cortozone shots and his poor tail was so raw it looked more like a racoon's tail that his normal proud plum. Then I discovered a product that contained Omega 3, 6 and 9 fatty acids and it was like a miracle cure. The brand I'm using right now is Kalahealth's Dermatrix but there are probably others out there. I know you can't see his tail in this pose:

but you can see how nice and healthy his coat is now.
Reply:i have a 6 yr old akita that battles skin and food allergies i had him allergy tested it cost a bit but it is well worth it in the end. you will find out exactly what your dog is allergic to it can be something she is eating that is causing this . a few things i found out was that my dog was allergic to wheat oats corn chicken turkey grass fleas ants and the list goes on. my vet has my dog on prednisone and claritin it is working great before i had the testing my dog looked horrible raw spots no fur on his face at all his paws were torn apart now he is a totally different dog . goodluck if you can afford the testing you will be happy you had it done
