What does a doctor do when he tests for allergies? I mean the skin prick test and what does he put on the skin

It isn't too bad. Depends on who does it. When I had it done, they would have me lie on my stomach. They would make several lines on my back then put a drop of the allergen on each area. They then took a little tool to scratch the skin a bit so the allergen would go under the skin. Then you wait to see if you have reactions, welts, itches, etc. When my son had it done no t long ago, they had a new tool which dispensed the allergen at the same time they scratched the skin. It can be a little uncomfortable at times, but doesn really hurt.

He/she will scratch you slightly and then drop various allergens into the scratches and wait to see if any of 'em turn red or itch. Not a big deal.
Reply:Its a plastic thing with many nobs on it. On each nob is a drop of histamine. Which is the thing in foods and plants and dust that causes allergies. It may burn a bit but its not bad. You may get s few read bumps and that's normal...they go away in a few hours.
Reply:the professional pricks your skin in one area like on your arm with many allergic serums and you have to wait a few days to go back to see if you have had an allergic reaction.
Reply:I've had the "scratch test" done.......once they prick your back they will place a drop of different types of allergy causing agents....pet dander, weeds, pollen, etc.....if you get a hive they then now what is triggering your allergies......they may suggest allergy shots.....which is a combination of exactly what you are allergic to......to help your body build up antibodies against them. Reply:Every thing %26amp; any thing you can possibly think of. A docotr will never be able to tell a person exactly what they are allergic to. My husband ate fish %26amp; sea food until it came out of his ears. Love the stuff. Now he can't touch it, without him going blue in the face. Gasping for air.And thats what life is all about. Surprises!
Reply:he puts a tiny bit of the stuff he's testing under your skin (at the surface). It's like a little bubble. Then you wait about 20 minutes to see which you react to. They can test 60 or more at a time. It's not a big deal. If you're afraid of needles, just don't look. it doesn't hurt. I've had it many times. For kids, they do it in the back and set it up so it's in a tray and it's all done at once.

Reply:i thought it would hurt, but it didn't. Tickled a bit when they drew the lines on your back. The only bad part was I am allergic to so many things so my entire back was itching but I wasn't allowed to scratch for 15 minutes.
